the bébé-bar™: I’ll take pureed carrots on ice

logo2 the bébé bar™: Ill take pureed carrots on iceIn my experience, the hardest age to feed a baby is between about 8 months and 13 months. From birth to 6 months, my daughter drank only “mama’s milk” (which was pretty straightforward). Between 6 and 8 months, she ate some breastmilk/cereal bites and some blended fruits and veggies, but breastmilk still was her primary sustenance. Between 8 months and 13 months, it seemed harder because we had to cut everything into itty bitty bites and we had to either feed her ourselves or give her foods that were easily self-served.

We never worried much about preparing separate meals for her palatte. From the beginning, she’s had corn and sweet tomatoes, chili and quesadillas, spaghetti and grilled chicken, even peanuts and salsa. Just last night, my husband gave her part of a jalapeno stuffed olive and she loved it! We’re fortunate that she’s not very picky and she’ll try anything (although she definitely has her favorites – macaroni and cheese, peas, corn, noodles, berries, fruit leathers, and m & m’s).

Still, it’s hard when you have to spoon the food bite-by-bite into baby’s mouth (that’s the most tiresome stage, I think) and/or when you have to think of foods to serve that are easy to self-feed (but that are also healthy).

f6301674 n1 299204183489750272 the bébé bar™: Ill take pureed carrots on icepomme bébé, a new company based in Newport Beach, CA, understands this dilemma. Founder Svetla Lazarova Kibota’s goal is to bring “flavorful, nutritious, and convenient meal-options to busy families who want only the best for their children.” pomme bebe specializes in “purely organic, freshly-cooked, homemade meals for babies and toddlers.”

With pomme bébé, your baby can enjoy fresh, nutritious meals delivered to your door – the spring seasonal menu includes items like Apple Blueberry Blend, Chicken Asparagus Orzo, and Cauliflower Carrot Puree. Menu items are divided by age (6+ months, 8+ months, 12+ months) and are delivered nationwide.

pommebebe tastingbar 300x130 the bébé bar™: Ill take pureed carrots on iceAll meals can be purchased or tested by child and parent alike at the bébé-bar™ in Newport Beach, CA (cool!) or you can visit the online store and place your order. pomme bébé will flash freeze your organic meals to lock-in the freshness and will ship them directly to your front door in environmentally-friendly insulated containers over dry ice.

If I were in Newport, I think I would definitely stop in at the bébé-bar™. It sounds like a fun concept. That said, I don’t think I would order foods for delivery when I can just as easily mash up an avocado or a banana or puree some blueberries on my own.

But what about you? Would you/have you consider(ed) ordering from a specialty baby food company like pomme bébé?

WIN IT! One winner will receive a pomme bébé sampler pack – delivered to his/her door! To enter, simply leave a comment on this post prior to Sunday, May 4 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). The winner will be announced and contacted on Monday, May 5. * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

*UPDATE* The winner is #57 Christine Grace. Congratulations!

  1. Annie says:

I admit, it is extremely tempting to have, not a full daily menu, but maybe a once or twice a week stock of such fresh, healthy food for my little guy! most of the time I make his food, and I love fresh fruit and veggies, but it sure does get tiring! And I lose creativity fast! (hes had more than his fair share of canned beans, peas, banana pieces, and yogurt!) if I had the extra cash, I’d certainly be tempted to buy back stock. ….or maybe I’ll consider giving such a luxury as a baby shower gift for my girlfriend! :) Thanks!

  2. Allison says:

Oh, what a neat idea! Like Annie, I make my son his food with fresh fruit and veggies, but it IS some work. It’s definitely worth it, though, to aviod all those preservative that are in the jarred baby foods. Plus, it’s way cheaper!

This sounds like a great place, though. I can’t say I’d order from them much, but it could be nice once in a while! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Jessie R. says:

What a neat treat this would be! I planned on and really wanted to make my own baby food but I didn’t make it work. I would still love to try with the next one! Thanks!

  4. carol says:

I’d like to try this for our little Gianna.

  5. Karen Gonyea says:

    Great Prize !

  6. Louise Brouillette says:

    What a neat device!

  7. Marilyn Wons says:

    This is ingenious!

  8. julie says:

apple blueberry..yum…love the bar for babies..too funny

  9. rebecca says:

This looks like a great prize

  10. I’m with you: It’s easier (and a LOT cheaper!) to just mash a banana. But this is a great concept…I’m sure there are lots of people this would appeal to. And I’d love to try it for free!

  11. Linda White says:

    Sounds very healthy and cool!

  12. Belinda says:

What could be better than healthy food for your baby
that you don’t have to prepare. It would be a rare
thing for me if I ordered any. It’s much easier and
cheaper to mash the foods up myself. Thanks for the
    giveaway!

  13. ok, now I feel guilty that I don’t make my own food for my little guy! (sigh) I would definitely love to win this, it sounds very healthy. Thanks!

  14. Mya Brooks says:

    Too cool!!!!! And Healthy!!!!!

  15. Sara says:

I think it looks like an extremely fun place to visit but I’m with you when it comes to ordering. I couldn’t fork over (no pun intended) the moola for something easily done and home. I’m pretty much like that with everything and my friends joke that when I see something I like I say “That would be easy to make!”. Sometimes I attempt it and sometimes I don’t. I do think looking at the menu would be a good way to get more ideas for homemade yummies though.

  16. Rossana V says:

I wish I could be as creative as all the other mothers, I’ve just stuck to the jar foods but would love to try this! And wish one of these bebe bars would open up in FL!

  17. Lesha says:

    Sounds great. :)

  18. Ronni Fox says:

I want all the best for my one and only grandaughter! I would love to send her this package….after all, 8 months is the perfect time to develope “good taste”.

  19. Teri Meairs says:

Perfect for Lily. She is a newborn, and thus far is a totally ‘Green’ baby. The Spring Seasonal Menu with the Chicken and the Apple Blueberries sounds lish! The Pretty in Pink Blanket, also perfect for Spring! Beautiful! Thank you Metropolitan Mama and Pomme BeBe.

  26. Linda Ellis says:

    please add my entry

  27. Dolly says:

Wow! How fun! If I was super busy with work and could afford the luxury, I’d definitely use Pomme Bebe. Like you, I use my blender or just mash up foods for Calvin. However, I think it’d be an especially fantastic option for mom’s/babies who often are traveling or on the go and need healthy options.

  28. Linda Moeller says:

    Neat prize!

  29. jen g. says:

I was just thinking about my daughter’s eating habits and how I need to be a little more wise in how I feed her!

  30. Jenny N. says:

I was nodding during this entire post. I’m so thankful that my son is old enough now (17 months) that we can just offer him whatever we’re having for dinner. Although I admit that I often plan my meals around what will give me the least mess factor!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  31. Tonya Froemel says:

    like to win this

  32. Catherine copeland says:

this is not only a great prize but certainly a must have. i can see that if i’d known about this product earlier I’d have it sitting in my house right now.

Great contest! Count me in, please.

  34. Savanda Hodge says:

  35. nicole b says:

I am lucky because my daughter will eat anything

  36. Kathy Mullins says:

Hi, it’s me again. I am the one who does not have a baby, but I love babies, especially those whose families need all the help they can get. If I am the lucky winner, I will make another baby very lucky who needs the food. I would donate the food to the Community Survival Center so that a baby doesn’t have to go hungry.

    Love

    Kathy

  37. Stephanie says:

This looks so cool and yummy!! My daughter would love to try something new!

  38. Caryn Bailey says:

Haha!!!! I’m laughing because I was just there last week!!!!! I did a review (I’ll tell you where and when it will be posted after it’s up) and the place is AWESOME!!! My son loved the food although he isn’t crazy about textures yet so we didn’t get into the 3rd stages. The pomme bar is awesome with fancy euro-highchairs.

  48. This sounds amazing! I really want my son to develop a curious palate and have a wide array of flavors and tastes at a young age.

  49. jennifer says:

    What a wonderful product. :)

  50. Erica says:

I probably wouldn’t spend my own money on it, but I’d love to try this. I really should try making my own baby food this time ’round, too; I never did with my eldest. Hmmm. gumbi1313 at msn dot com

  51. Meredith Peters says:

This sounds very convenient but I imagine would be cost prohibitive for most young families with a stay at home mom!

  52. Becca says:

Like several of the commenters above, I made homemade baby food for my daughter. I took some time, but it was worth it to know exactly what was going into her little body. This service sounds great for Moms who have the money but not the time.

  53. kelli says:

My daughter would love this! I make an effort to make my own food for her, but that’s a little meal all in itself — I need some relief sometimes!

I would love to have a little stash in the freezer – I’m planning to make my own food but I know there will be those days when time just won’t allow it – or when there’s no food in the house to mash!

  57. Julie says:

Oh, man, I wish I lived near Newport Beach–that brick and mortar BeBeBar would be a killer mommy-daughter date! :) We would love to try these here at our home, too, though–what a fabulous, fresh idea. :) Thanks for the chance!

What a great idea for a store. I cannot imagine going to a store with baby food on the menu!! All of the food looks so fresh and the colors are amazing. I have tried to make my own baby food but it never went over real well. I would love to win this.

  77. Tiffany says:

Do you have my email address? It not it is oconnellhouse@msn.com

  78. Kathy says:

What a neat place in Newport. I just started my baby on food but she’s not too thrilled. Much rather have mama’s milk. She’s 7 months and she is really watching everyone else eat, her eyes travel from the fork to the mouth. I know she wants it, she just doesn’t want to work at it in her mouth moving it to the back and swallowing. I’d love to try a sampler.

  79. Amanda says:

Wow – what a great idea. I was just thinking how much I am starting to hate coming up with food for my 12 month old to eat. This would be awesome.
