the bébé-bar™: I’ll take pureed carrots on ice

    By metropolitanmama | April 27, 2008

In my experience, the hardest age to feed a baby is between about 8 months and 13 months. From birth to 6 months, my daughter drank only “mama’s milk” (which was pretty straightforward). Between 6 and 8 months, she ate some breastmilk/cereal bites and some blended fruits and veggies, but breastmilk still was her primary sustenance. Between 8 months and 13 months, it seemed harder because we had to cut everything into itty bitty bites and we had to either feed her ourselves or give her foods that were easily self-served.

We never worried much about preparing separate meals for her palatte. From the beginning, she’s had corn and sweet tomatoes, chili and quesadillas, spaghetti and grilled chicken, even peanuts and salsa. Just last night, my husband gave her part of a jalapeno stuffed olive and she loved it! We’re fortunate that she’s not very picky and she’ll try anything (although she definitely has her favorites - macaroni and cheese, peas, corn, noodles, berries, fruit leathers, and m & m’s).

Still, it’s hard when you have to spoon the food bite-by-bite into baby’s mouth (that’s the most tiresome stage, I think) and/or when you have to think of foods to serve that are easy to self-feed (but that are also healthy).

pomme bébé, a new company based in Newport Beach, CA, understands this dilemma. Founder Svetla Lazarova Kibota’s goal is to bring “flavorful, nutritious, and convenient meal-options to busy families who want only the best for their children.” pomme bebe specializes in “purely organic, freshly-cooked, homemade meals for babies and toddlers.”

With pomme bébé, your baby can enjoy fresh, nutritious meals delivered to your door - the spring seasonal menu includes items like Apple Blueberry Blend, Chicken Asparagus Orzo, and Cauliflower Carrot Puree. Menu items are divided by age (6+ months, 8+ months, 12+ months) and are delivered nationwide.

All meals can be purchased or tested by child and parent alike at the bébé-bar™ in Newport Beach, CA (cool!) or you can visit the online store and place your order. pomme bébé will flash freeze your organic meals to lock-in the freshness and will ship them directly to your front door in environmentally-friendly insulated containers over dry ice.

If I were in Newport, I think I would definitely stop in at the bébé-bar™. It sounds like a fun concept. That said, I don’t think I would order foods for delivery when I can just as easily mash up an avocado or a banana or puree some blueberries on my own.

But what about you? Would you/have you consider(ed) ordering from a specialty baby food company like pomme bébé?

WIN IT! One winner will receive a pomme bébé sampler pack - delivered to his/her door! To enter, simply leave a comment on this post prior to Sunday, May 4 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). The winner will be announced and contacted on Monday, May 5. * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

*UPDATE* The winner is #57 Christine Grace. Congratulations!

I admit, it is extremely tempting to have, not a full daily menu, but maybe a once or twice a week stock of such fresh, healthy food for my little guy! most of the time I make his food, and I love fresh fruit and veggies, but it sure does get tiring! And I lose creativity fast! (hes had more than his fair share of canned beans, peas, banana pieces, and yogurt!) if I had the extra cash, I’d certainly be tempted to buy back stock. ….or maybe I’ll consider giving such a luxury as a baby shower gift for my girlfriend! :) Thanks!

Oh, what a neat idea! Like Annie, I make my son his food with fresh fruit and veggies, but it IS some work. It’s definitely worth it, though, to aviod all those preservative that are in the jarred baby foods. Plus, it’s way cheaper!

This sounds like a great place, though. I can’t say I’d order from them much, but it could be nice once in a while! Thanks for sharing!

What could be better than healthy food for your baby
that you don’t have to prepare. It would be a rare
thing for me if I ordered any. It’s much easier and
cheaper to mash the foods up myself. Thanks for the

I think it looks like an extremely fun place to visit but I’m with you when it comes to ordering. I couldn’t fork over (no pun intended) the moola for something easily done and home. I’m pretty much like that with everything and my friends joke that when I see something I like I say “That would be easy to make!”. Sometimes I attempt it and sometimes I don’t. I do think looking at the menu would be a good way to get more ideas for homemade yummies though.

Hi, it’s me again. I am the one who does not have a baby, but I love babies, especially those whose families need all the help they can get. If I am the lucky winner, I will make another baby very lucky who needs the food. I would donate the food to the Community Survival Center so that a baby doesn’t have to go hungry.

      Love

Pureed carrots on ice; well what about mixed vegetable/pureed on ice. Go and love the designer entry name that is also so qualitative for health/dietary. Many thanks for the entry!! SW

I have a hard time with my kids eating their veggies but serving it in this form just might work!

This is really interesting. I probably would have considered it but in the end would probably just make my own with organic fruits and veggies.

The bébé-bar™ in Newport Beach, CA looks so cute. Cool that it can be delivered to your door for those that are far from CA.
