Good Reads
Kimber Tower, creator of Ball Baby Overall mei tai baby carriers, recently wrote an amazing article (she took the words right out of my mouth!) called “Top 10 Reasons to Babywear at Church.” The article starts out like this: “Church is a hard place to be with small children.”
I read Audrey’s article, “Titles, Tags. And labels. STAY AWAY!” on the Pinks & Blues Girls blog…and I completely agree! I think labels are damaging. It’s much better to uplift and praise our little ones’ - giving specific positive feedback about their character and competence.
Want to surprise a mom blogger with a gift for Mother’s Day or anyday? Read the “5 Great Gifts for Mommy Bloggers” article on Between the Lines.
I’ve been wondering lately if my 20-month-old still needs a nap during the day. BabyCenter said this: “most children need at least one nap a day through age 4.” What do YOU say?
Freebies
Sign up with ArtsCow and receive 400 (yes, 400!) free photos, plus an 8″x8″ photo book. From iMommies: “They’ve given away over 6 million free prints in the past two weeks, and the promotion will end once that number reaches 20 million - sign up now!”
Announcements
Did you know that 35 million Americans are hungry or living on the brink of hunger? You can help by participating in the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on May 10, 2008. Place bags filled with nonperishable food items next to your mailbox. Your letter carrier will pick them up and deliver them to local food banks. NOTE: The site encourages you to contact your local post office to verify its participation in the program.
Ohdeedoh is looking for a freelance blogger to join their team covering modern homelife with children. They are especially hopeful that the new blogger will be from a Western city. Apply for this part-time job before May 12.
Lipstick Powder n Paint is looking for experienced freelance beauty writers to write posts on beauty news and products.
You’re invited to the 5th Annual MommyFest Blog Party (”Meet Other Moms Like You“) between May 12-16. Host a party on your blog and be a guest at other “blog parties” across the web. Don’t forget about the party favors! Sees Chocolates, a custom blog design, a $20 gift certificate to Amazon, and more!
Do you live in the Philadelphia area? The Fabulous, Fashionable, and Fearless Jo-Lynne from Musings of a Housewife is hosting a Philly Blogger Meetup. I’m thinking about organizing one for Southern Arizona bloggers and bloggers-to-be. Stay tuned.
Miscellany
Pioneer Woman shares her recipe for The Best Lasagna with crisp photographs to show every step of the cooking process.
I just met (as in, in-person!) Darcie from Such the Spot and she is so sweet and genuine. You should stop in at her blog and say hi. Are there any other AZ bloggers out there that want to meet up?

Oh my goodness, so much to see so little time and a growling tummy to boot. That photo one is very exciting especially with a birthday and vacation coming up! Thanks for finding all this fun-ness for us.

I think there might be a catch with the free prints from ArtsCow, like a monthly fee of $9.98. Check the post below from Heather at Freebies 4 Mom.

I love your blogs and all the information you have to share. Now I feel I can return some information to you. A 20 month old still needs a nap. My friends call me the “sleep Nazi” because both my boys are great sleepers and nappers. My 8 year old still sleeps 11 hours a night for me . I also have a 31 month old and he sleeps from 8pm to 7 am and still takes a 2 hour nap for me. It’s about training your child to sleep. This way you and your husband have that alone time at night!! I know I am rambling, sorry.
Love your site!!

Thanks for another good one! I’ll be entering some contests after I post this… Blondie doesn’t always sleep during her nap, but she still gets one daily. It gives her a rest (if not some sleep) and me some time for myself. As I write, both Blondie and Cheeks are napping peacefully, and I am oh-so-happy about it. But even if they weren’t, I still insist upon that time for all of us to rest. My two cents. BTW, good luck on the book writing today!

Naps through 4? In my dreams! My first gave up naps around 2 or 2.5. I have to wake my 19 m/old from her nap early if I want her to go to bed before 10. (And yes, I’ve tried moving her nap earlier…I have to limit the duration.)
