A Sweet Summer Memory and A Cold One for The (Pregnant) Lady

    By Stephanie | June 7, 2008

I looked at the display in my car’s dashboard today and “100″ greeted me. 100 degrees, that is (not 100 miles lest you were thinking I’m a crazy driver).

It’s summer, I thought. So my daughter and I pulled over to Baskin Robbins and shared a strawberry ice cream cone. It was a moment that I would like to hold on to forever. There she was – perched on an adult-sized chair holding a perfect strawberry ice cream scoop atop a sugar cone, kicking her legs and bobbing her head along to the music. She’d lick the ice cream cone and then thrust it in my direction and smile. That pink smile. That lovely little strawberry smile combined with her button nose, her blue eyes, her messy blonde hair. Absolutely unforgettable.

Summer is a great time for ice cream. It’s also a wonderful time for cold drinks – pina coladas, sangria, and margaritas. If you’re pregnant, however, or if you just don’t like the taste of that bootleggin’ stuff (which, actually describes me pretty accurately – most of the time), you can still enjoy alcohol-free treats that are equally enticing.

Want 76 recipes for easy drinks you can blend up in under 10 minutes? Check out Margarita Mama: Mocktails for Moms-to-Be by Alyssa Gusenoff (Quirk Books, 2008). Try a refreshing Strawberry Banana Smoothie, a punchy Blueberry Lemonade, or…drink up an Easy Delivery (and hope for the same).

Best of all, these drinks can be shared with pregnant buddies and even your kids.

WIN IT! One winner will receive a copy of Margarita Mama: Mocktails for Moms-to-Be by Alyssa Gusenoff. To enter, leave a comment on this post prior to Saturday, June 14 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

*UPDATE* The winner is #82 Alexa Marie. Congratulations!

That is so cute. Most of my friends are in the age of getting pregnant and I would love to start surprising them with one or more of these drinks.

My best girl is due in July, and I’m sure she’d love one of these to help her cool down

well, frozen drinks and backyard play would be nicer! I don’t care for alcoholic drinks because one teeny drink and I’m on the couch napping and there is no time for naps here!

Contests used to be about typing in your address and then you waited. Now they want you to post a comment so that it looks like people give a damn about their site. In essence this is a betrayal. Who gives a poo about metromama? What a farce that you have to post a comment you don’t really want to post to have a chance to win something.

Stephanie, you got me all excited again with this title, thinking, “YAYYYYYYYYY! Is Stephanie pregnant!?!?!?!” I guess not…at least not confessing to it anyways… ;) This does look like a fun little book, even for us non-preggos.
