    Safer Bibs for Drooling Babies

    By Stephanie | June 20, 2008

My daughter never was much of a bib-wearer. She actually didn’t drool a whole lot and I just preferred to change her clothes after messy meals instead of using a bib (not sure why – I think I’m just a minimalist by nature…).

That said, I know plenty of moms who have their little ones wear bibs all day long because it is easier for them.

If your little one is the bib-sporting type, this is something new to consider. Bibs & Match offers “innovative bibs that attach directly to the onesies to help prevent strangulation and suffocation.”

Molly, a mom of two and the inventor of the product, explains how she thought of the idea: “There were numerous occasions when my baby fell asleep with a bib on and I didn’t want to disturb him to unsnap or unVelcro the bib from the back of his neck. Then I’d worry about bib strangulation.” As a result of this frustration, she did what so many moms amaze me in doing – she created a solution!

Bibs and Match sets feature simple, modern, cartoon-style animal pictures and can be interchanged easily – the “heads” on the bibs match with the “body” on the onesie. Very clever! That is my favorite feature of Bibs & Match (besides the safety feature, of course).

At present, there aren’t a whole lot of designs to choose from and the ones that are available tend to be more boyish than girlish in my opinion, but the website states that they are meant to be gender-neutral.

Bibs & Match sets can be purchased online or at a retailer near you. The sets are available in the following sizes: 3-6m, 6-9m, 9-12m.

WIN IT! One winner will receive a Bibs and Match 3-Piece Set. To enter, leave a comment on this post prior to Friday, June 27 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

*UPDATE* The winner is #24 Gen. Congratulations!

Great design. I had a spitter and it wasn’t fun to cover up those darling outfits with a bib that more often than not – didn’t match.

Wow, I am amazed that someone has come up with something like this. I’ve just begun to need bibs for my 3 month old (lots of drooling) and I felt the same way about unsnapping a bib from him when he’s fallen asleep, as he is a really light sleeper. I’d love to try this, as I don’t want him to strangle himself if he naps with the bib on. Thanks for sharing!

My #1 was not at all a drooly baby. Her sister more than makes up for it. Daily we have wet wet shirts. My mom brought her some little bibs but I too was worried about letting her sleep with it on but didn’t want to wake her with the ever so loud velcro sound (which I was going to spell out but realized I have no idea how). Lovin’ this invention and wishin’ I was one of those ingenious moms.

I do like bibs and outfits to match if possible, and now that Cheeks is teething and drooling like mad the bibs are getting a lot more use. I don’t like putting her down to sleep with them on because of the choking possibility, though (as the creator said), so this looks like a great option for that. I agree that it would be nice if there were girlier options for my little beauty, but I’ll take what I can get. Thanks!

Great idea! I’ve had that same problem with my 7-week-old daughter… I keep bibs on her because she sporadically spits up all day and hates to be changed from one outfit to the other, lol. So sometimes it’s just easier to have bibs on her. Thanks!
