Safer Bibs for Drooling Babies
By metropolitanmama | June 20, 2008
My daughter never was much of a bib-wearer. She actually didn’t drool a whole lot and I just preferred to change her clothes after messy meals instead of using a bib (not sure why - I think I’m just a minimalist by nature…).
That said, I know plenty of moms who have their little ones wear bibs all day long because it is easier for them.
If your little one is the bib-sporting type, this is something new to consider. Bibs & Match offers “innovative bibs that attach directly to the onesies to help prevent strangulation and suffocation.”
Molly, a mom of two and the inventor of the product, explains how she thought of the idea: “There were numerous occasions when my baby fell asleep with a bib on and I didn’t want to disturb him to unsnap or unVelcro the bib from the back of his neck. Then I’d worry about bib strangulation.” As a result of this frustration, she did what so many moms amaze me in doing - she created a solution!
Bibs and Match sets feature simple, modern, cartoon-style animal pictures and can be interchanged easily - the “heads” on the bibs match with the “body” on the onesie. Very clever! That is my favorite feature of Bibs & Match (besides the safety feature, of course).
At present, there aren’t a whole lot of designs to choose from and the ones that are available tend to be more boyish than girlish in my opinion, but the website states that they are meant to be gender-neutral.
Bibs & Match sets can be purchased online or at a retailer near you. The sets are available in the following sizes: 3-6m, 6-9m, 9-12m.
WIN IT! One winner will receive a Bibs and Match 3-Piece Set. To enter, leave a comment on this post prior to Friday, June 27 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.
*UPDATE* The winner is #24 Gen. Congratulations!

The bibs are really adorable. I have a baby on the way and really am intrigued!
June 20th, 2008 at 6:49 am
Great design. I had a spitter and it wasn’t fun to cover up those darling outfits with a bib that more often than not - didn’t match.
June 20th, 2008 at 6:54 am
I’d love to win. Please enter me in your great contest. Thanks.

Great idea. I thought the normal bibs look a little uncomfortable.
June 20th, 2008 at 8:28 am
This is such a good idea…one of those ideas that seems so common sense, but amazingly someone only just now dreamed up.
June 20th, 2008 at 8:38 am

June 20th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
I would love to try these. My first two kids were HUGE droolers- I think due to teething and they started teething WAY before we saw teeth. Their entire fronts would get soaked and I used bibs constantly- what a great idea this mom had! Thanks for introducing us to such a cool product!
June 20th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
cool prize
June 20th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
cute
June 20th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Wow, I am amazed that someone has come up with something like this. I’ve just begun to need bibs for my 3 month old (lots of drooling) and I felt the same way about unsnapping a bib from him when he’s fallen asleep, as he is a really light sleeper. I’d love to try this, as I don’t want him to strangle himself if he naps with the bib on. Thanks for sharing!
June 20th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
i love the bibs they are so cute
June 20th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
My #1 was not at all a drooly baby. Her sister more than makes up for it. Daily we have wet wet shirts. My mom brought her some little bibs but I too was worried about letting her sleep with it on but didn’t want to wake her with the ever so loud velcro sound (which I was going to spell out but realized I have no idea how). Lovin’ this invention and wishin’ I was one of those ingenious moms.
June 20th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

I was just pulling out all the old baby clothes and noticed that my little guy ruined just about all of his 9-12 month onesies. I guess I should have put a bib on him more often…oops. This looks so fun!
June 21st, 2008 at 3:25 pm

June 21st, 2008 at 4:16 pm
I love this! thanks, great prize. Thanks for all the contest.
June 21st, 2008 at 4:23 pm
I’ve never heard of bib strangulation. My youngest wears them a lot because he’s a big spitter upper. Now I have something new to keep in mind. I do always use velcro ones and he doesn’t sleep with them on….oh boy…always something new to think about! This product is a great idea!
June 21st, 2008 at 4:41 pm
This is a really cute idea. I hope the site will continue to expand and have a variety of these sets available. I really think that there is a market for them and not just for a one time thing.

I do like bibs and outfits to match if possible, and now that Cheeks is teething and drooling like mad the bibs are getting a lot more use. I don’t like putting her down to sleep with them on because of the choking possibility, though (as the creator said), so this looks like a great option for that. I agree that it would be nice if there were girlier options for my little beauty, but I’ll take what I can get. Thanks!
June 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Kids do drool when they eat and when they teeth so these would come in very handy.

June 23rd, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Thats very smart. As my son got older he would always try to rip his bibs off. With them snapped on, instead of a little piece of velcro I dont think he could!

My son didn’t just drool…he spit up long after the 6 months that Dr. Bob told me it would stop…needless to say we went through many a bib. Now that he’s eating solid food it’s even messier.
I love this…innovative bibs that attach directly to the onesies to help prevent strangulation and suffocation…is she a nurse? haha!

Have 4 month old grandbabies that will be drooling soon when those precious teeth come in, so I could really use these.
June 26th, 2008 at 6:12 am
Great idea! I’ve had that same problem with my 7-week-old daughter… I keep bibs on her because she sporadically spits up all day and hates to be changed from one outfit to the other, lol. So sometimes it’s just easier to have bibs on her. Thanks!
June 26th, 2008 at 6:37 am
I love this idea, too cute
June 26th, 2008 at 6:43 am
