Scoot Around the House with Your Baby in Tow
By metropolitanmama | June 28, 2008
Dinner needs to be made. Laundry needs to be switched from the washer to the dryer. The floor needs to be vacuumed. AND your baby/toddler wants to be held.
That was (and sometimes still is) a common dilemma in my house in the early days. I was never one to let my little one cry it out or to ignore her sweet pleading requests for “up.” So I took up babywearing and never looked back.
If you haven’t tried sticking your baby in a wrap, sling, mei tai, pouch, or carrier while you’re doing chores, I encourage you to give it a go. I’m not making any try-this-for-30-days-and-it-will-change-your-house-or-your-money-back guarantees, but I do think it can *help* you get a few extra things done if your baby just wants to snuggle, but you really have to get those enchiladas prepped.
If you’re looking for a high-quality carrier that accommodates babies from 5 months to 40 pounds, take a peek at the Scootababy. The Scootababy features a natural carrying position, top-quality materials, and sturdy construction. It allows for eye-to-eye contact with your munchkin and gives you the ability to use your hands while still keeping your baby close to your heart.
I tried the Scootababy with my daughter and I was impressed by the comfortable shoulder strap and the obviously well-crafted materials and design. My daughter is beyond the carrying stage for the most part so she got “squirmy” quickly, but I think this would be a fantastic carrier for younger babies, especially in the 6-12 month age range. The “seat” part is padded and actually looks like it might be snug and cozy for baby, and it’s comfy for mom (or dad) too.
The Scootababy can be purchased online for $107.
WIN IT! One winner will receive a Scootababy carrier. To enter, leave a comment on this post prior to Sunday, July 6 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.
*UPDATE* The winner is #126 Tara Hill. Congratulations!

my son was a huuuge snuggle-butt when he was younger. Now, he’s just as snuggly, but a whole lot bigger. He’s probably too old for this, but I’m guessing our next one will be a cuddlemonster too.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
yes, count me in. thank you

I’m apart from my 6 month old daughter Avery so much during the work day that when I’m home I like to carry her as much as possible. This looks like a great mommy-helper and I’d love to try it out!
June 29th, 2008 at 4:02 am
I don’t have a carrier yet. This one looks comfy.
June 29th, 2008 at 4:08 am
The Scootababy looks well made and very functional. I think it’s marvelous to be able to keep baby so close and actually accomplish tasks too.
June 29th, 2008 at 5:39 am
I have never used babycarrying with my boys, but since we are finally having a baby girl (due in September) I’m definately thinking about it.. it’d be easier to be able to do more , especially with 2 boys under the age of 3!

I would love this for my daughter, due in November with my first grandchild
June 29th, 2008 at 6:04 am
My daughter still loves to be be carried (and I have to admit I love carrying her too), especially lately since she is teething. It is the only thing that will calm her down. Lately I have been popping her in our sling, but I would love to try this out. Thanks!
June 29th, 2008 at 6:07 am
ive had the wraps before and this one seems easier to use, and wont be as hot in the summer. thanx
June 29th, 2008 at 6:27 am
We are trying to conceive, and this would be soooo perfect for us.
June 29th, 2008 at 6:43 am
I can not find a carrier that I like that actually supports my son well. I would love to give this one a try!
June 29th, 2008 at 6:57 am
my little sis needs this!!!
June 29th, 2008 at 7:01 am
This is a great thing to have!!
June 29th, 2008 at 7:01 am
What a great giveaway. For a colic baby this is perfect!
June 29th, 2008 at 7:47 am
I’ve enjoyed using different kinds of slings & carriers with my boys, and this looks like a great one. I like the simplicity of the design & that it looks so comfy for the baby.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:02 am
see now this is a product I can really use! My son just will not cling and he’s almost 11 months old and out growing my Bjorn, help I need to get stuff done.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:07 am
Have a new baby and would love to win this one!
June 29th, 2008 at 8:09 am
Carrying my daughter around in a sling was what saved me from not having an overwhelmingly out of control house! This carrier looks super comfortable, for both baby and mom. I also like the fact you can go to 40 pounds since often enough the “up” word is used now at 18 months, and let’s face it, she is getting heavy!
June 29th, 2008 at 8:15 am
like to win this
June 29th, 2008 at 8:37 am
super cute - I have a baby due in a month and this would be perfect
June 29th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Don’t need one of these since J’s 2, but it looks great, and I’m all about baby-wearing. Can’t beat hands-free productivity AND baby bonding (the last part being most important OF COURSE). I’m telling my friend who’s having a baby about your post and the product!

I like that, I would like to give it a try, but Robert is a little fidgety
June 29th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Thanks for the chance
June 29th, 2008 at 9:26 am
I’d give this to my neice…how nice!
June 29th, 2008 at 9:41 am
I used a carrier with all three of my kids and would love to give one to my brother and his wife who are expecting their first born this summer. They really are a life (and back!) saver.

Looks great, and I appreciate your review. I want to buy a carrier that both my husband and I will use, and I think a black, carrier (not sling) will end up the winner. But I’m finding it hard to tell which carriers will be comfortable, esp after wearing it for a couple hours while out and about. And which truly take into account ergonomics. Guess it’s trial and error!
June 29th, 2008 at 10:26 am
This would be great for my new grandson.
June 29th, 2008 at 10:46 am
I would love this!! My best friend just had a baby!!
June 29th, 2008 at 10:48 am
This is a wonderful item to have for a new baby, my baby would love this. Thanks for the contest
June 29th, 2008 at 10:54 am
Looks like a neat design. I already like to hold my 9 month old and 2.5 year old, so a good sturdy carrier for that would be awesome!
June 29th, 2008 at 11:19 am
This looks like such a cozy carrier. It would make life easier and more cuddly.
June 29th, 2008 at 11:27 am
This looks like a great product. My two year old still loves to be held/cuddled especially at preparing-for-dinner-time (why are they the fussiest then?!). I would love to give this a try. Thanks so much!!
June 29th, 2008 at 11:45 am
I would love to try this! I keep reading great things about this sling. I absolutely love my Ergo, but having a second one (that may be easier to put on) would be wonderful! I really do love to “wear” my son. It makes everything from housework to errands so much easier. As a plus, it tends to keep him safer, too!
June 29th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
enter me please!
June 29th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
it would be great to have one. enter me please!
June 29th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
It looks very comfortable
June 29th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
This looks great! Thank you!
June 29th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
I would love this product for baby #2 (due October). I used a different baby carrier with my first and she wasn’t terribly comfortable in it…so it’s usefulness didn’t last very long at all. This Scootababy looks so very comfortable for both baby and for mama/dada. What a great design.
June 29th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
I would love to win this for my grandchildren!!!!
June 29th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
just send it
June 29th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
i would love this!
June 29th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Cheeks likes to be with me much of the day, but it gets tough. I like my Baby Bjorn okay, but this one looks better. I haven’t completely jumped on teh baby-wearing bandwagon because wearing her in front makes me nervous when cooking because of heat and sharp objects, and sometimes she’s just kind of in the way for doing things in the home. If you’ve got better tips, let me know!
June 29th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Love that it grows with your baby. Looks comfortable and easy to use. I would love to give this a try! Thanks.
June 29th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
This looks like a great baby carrier. Baby due in August.
June 29th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
I love it, I love it I looooove it!
June 29th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
That’d be so handy to use.
June 29th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
I love the act that it is so well made. This is important when you have kids
June 29th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
I would love this for my daughter, due in july with my first grandchild
June 29th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
I’d like to try this carrier! I love my Ergo, but it only works for me in a back carry (I think b/c I am quite petite). The Scootababy looks like it would be great for hip snuggles.
June 29th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Super cute!
June 29th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I’d love to have another carrying option too. It does look like a very comfy hip carrier and I’m sure I could use it with the new babe
June 29th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
I’d love one of these for the new baby coming in August, it would help with keeping a free hand to tend to my 3 year old as well!!
June 29th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
We could have used this at the zoo today. My son is 3, but when he gets tired after a long day like that he doesn’t want to walk or ride in the wagon anymore. He wants to be held which is difficult since he weighs almost 40 lbs. I’ve not seen a carrier before that can hold a toddler.
June 29th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
I’ve loved babywearing since my friend introduced me to the ergo=) I’d love to try a side style carrier for our new daughter
June 29th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
I’ve been reading about every baby carrier I hear about lately. We used a borrowed Bjorn with our daughter and were happy with it. But with our next one I’d love to find something that will grow with him/her, and something that has more options beyond front-carrying.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Hi, My cousin has a baby shower coming up in August. This would be a great gift for her! It looks good and it sounds comfortable. Please enter me in your wonderful drawing. I appreciate it…..Cindi
June 29th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
So darling! I’ve tried a number of carriers and love what they do, but they don’t always feel comfortable for me, or look like they are comfortable for my daughter. I love the design of this, and the way it looks so much like a “natural snuggle”.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
I have tried a couple different carriers but have yet to find one I liked.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
My sister-in-law is preggers with her third and I think this would be a great help.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
My new grandson would love this.
June 29th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
This would be great!
June 29th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
i need this for my youngest grandbaby he’s 20lbs.
June 29th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
With a niece, 2 friends, 2 stepsons girlfriends ( a set of twins) all expecting this year, I could really use this for a gift. I usually make croceted blankets, but I think I will make some baby goodie baskets. Please enter me, thank you
June 29th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
A max of 40lbs? Hallelujah! This would be the perfect answer to my daughters pleas of “Mommy, carry me pleeeeeeeeease.” She is just over 30lbs, has outgrown her other carriers (except the BIG frame carrier - not so nice for a quick grocery run) and I am not ambidextrous - i.e. I am afraid that I left bicep is outshining my right. I have my fingers crossed and, in the mean time, my arms under her bottom while I carry her. Cheers.
June 29th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
sure wish I would have had one of these for my daughter…. oh well, just in time for my cousin.
June 29th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Had babies that liked nothing better than being in mommies arms, this would have made my life so much easier.
June 29th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
This would be a nice carrier for the little one.
June 30th, 2008 at 12:52 am
This looks like a really nice carrier. With so many out on the market, it’s hard to know which are the “good” ones. Thanks for letting us know your experience with it.
June 30th, 2008 at 3:39 am
I’m a firm believer in keeping babies close.
This looks like a great product to cuddle them and still get things done. Thanks for the chance to win.
June 30th, 2008 at 3:42 am
A great baby shower gift!
June 30th, 2008 at 4:33 am
This looks like the most comfortable baby carrier I’ve seen, would love to try it out!
June 30th, 2008 at 4:39 am
I’m having my 5th child and this would be a big help
June 30th, 2008 at 4:48 am
My best friend is now pregnant with her fourth child (due in August!), and this would be such a wonderful gift for her! Her hands are already full with a 3 year old, 10 year old, and 13 year old.
June 30th, 2008 at 4:55 am
I would love to win this for my sister-in-law.

June 30th, 2008 at 6:39 am
This would be really useful!
June 30th, 2008 at 6:46 am
This would sure come in handy since I’m due in November.
June 30th, 2008 at 6:48 am
I’d love to try this out one my little one who is due to arrive in August.
June 30th, 2008 at 7:20 am
I love how comfortable the baby looks. Also, the fact that it goes all the way to 40 lbs. is great! At that point they might be too heavy to carry, but with a little leverage they can still get a lot of mommy time and you can still continue doing some chores.
June 30th, 2008 at 7:23 am
THANK YOU GOD BLESS
June 30th, 2008 at 7:27 am
Great contest! Count me in! Thanks!

June 30th, 2008 at 8:47 am
With a child coming in October, I could really use this
Thanks!

I’d love this! Please enter me.
June 30th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Seen these before, they look good. I think my hubby would like this… I’m loving my Mei Tai but I love to try new and different ones but with them being $$ I’d rather win one. Thanks for the opportunity.
June 30th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
I like the jelly beans ones. I was a baby lugger too. It would have been nice to have my hands free when going to the bathroom!! This would be a great gift for my new niece and her Mommy!
June 30th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Pick me!
June 30th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Up to 40lbs is great and I know my daughter will love it!
June 30th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
wow
June 30th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
I’d love to give this one a try. I’ve tried a few — and have a favorite — but I’m always game to give something new a try!! Thanks for the opportunity!
June 30th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Looks great and like it might save the ‘hip swing’ that is so common. My 8 month old loves to be carried and doing things one handed is an understatement. She loves to see what is going on from a better view than the floor or her high chair!
June 30th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
count me in
June 30th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
This would help out immensely when I watch my granddaughter. Her mommy and I could share it. Please count me in. Thanks!!

very nice
June 30th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
My little LaLa will be six months in 9 days, and I’d love to get this for she and I. I find myself sitting alot when I get home these days because she just wants to be near me, I don’t have to hold her, but she feels the need to be leaning on me. So, this would help me get so much done AND still be close to baby LaLa
June 30th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
practical for mom and baby. nothing better than having baby in eyesight and snuggly close.
July 1st, 2008 at 2:18 am
This is a cool prize.
July 1st, 2008 at 3:24 am
This looks like a great alternative to the bjorn or the maya wrap. I used those too, and the trekker but mostly the bjorn. I was going to give my sister my bjorn but after three kids, I’d love to give her a new one and this carrier looks great.
July 1st, 2008 at 5:22 am
That looks really interesting! I’ve researched several types of baby carriers, but I haven’t seen one like this yet!
July 1st, 2008 at 6:56 am
Hope to win this. I have a baby shower coming up.
July 1st, 2008 at 8:25 am
Ooh! This would be perfect for my girlfriend’s baby shower!
July 1st, 2008 at 8:30 am

I have a 2 onth old and would love to win this for when she’s a couple of months older. Thank you!
July 1st, 2008 at 9:39 am
I have never tried using a carrier, but my youngest is a major snuggle bug, so I know that we could get alot of use out of this item.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Slings and wraps are great but this one looks better for older kids. I know a lil hug-muffin who would like to help me give it a test run!
July 1st, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Enter me to win, thanks !
July 1st, 2008 at 2:02 pm
I can’t believe that it will hold up to forty pounds! That is when you really need a sling! Another great giveaway. Thanks a bunch!

July 1st, 2008 at 4:09 pm

July 1st, 2008 at 7:46 pm
That looks so useful.
July 1st, 2008 at 8:26 pm
love it!
July 1st, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Wow! That’s great. It obviously holds baby in a sitting position unlike slings which the baby lays in.

nice!
July 2nd, 2008 at 7:19 am
just to cool
July 2nd, 2008 at 7:46 am
What a nice and comfortable way to keep your baby close to your heart. I’m so amazed on how these carriers change over the years. Even though my kids are way to big for these now, I could use this for my grandaughter. It’s looks so snuggly.
July 2nd, 2008 at 7:54 am
Ohhh. Awesome giveaway! I could really use this!
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:59 am
My baby would love this.

I was sad because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet. So I said, “Got any shoes you’re not using?” -Steven Wright
July 2nd, 2008 at 10:47 am
With a 7 year old, a 2 year old, and one on the way, this could really be a life saver. I never had a carrier with my first two but would love to give this a try with our third. Thanks for the chance to win!
July 2nd, 2008 at 11:35 am
Please enter me. Thanks.
July 2nd, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Both of my boys were worn in slings and an Ergo until they wouldn’t let me carry them anymore. Now that we are working on #3 (hopefully a girl…yay!), it goes without saying that wearing the third one will not only be something I enjoy doing, but a necessity to my busy house. Pick me! Pick me! =)
July 2nd, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I am so looking for something like this for my 1 month old daughter!
July 2nd, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I have such a great destination for this should I win.
July 2nd, 2008 at 2:55 pm
What a great idea!
July 2nd, 2008 at 4:33 pm

July 2nd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
I haven’t found a carrier that I love and this one looks perfect!
July 3rd, 2008 at 4:55 am

July 3rd, 2008 at 6:09 am
My baby boy is due in October and i need a carrier !! Thanks for offering this!
July 3rd, 2008 at 7:32 am
This looks amazing! My youngest always loves to cuddle, so this could come in handy!
July 3rd, 2008 at 8:14 am
I’m hoping my next baby will enjoy being snuggled more than my first. I tried all sorts of carriers…the baby sling, mai tai, hip carrier and she was not digging any. Too independent! I’d love to have this one to try with my second child. m_huston(at)hotmail(dot)com

My two-year-old loves to walk when we got out, but she inevitably gets tired and then wants to be carried. She’s getting heavy, so my arms get tired after just a little while! I love that this carrier works with larger toddlers and would love to try it out with her!

One of my most often used sentences is “Part of the changes your body goes through during pregnancy should include growing a third arm.”
Guess you made it so we don’t have to evolve into octopods! lol Thanks for hosting yet another great give-away

July 4th, 2008 at 6:21 am
I know my wife would like this, she gets tired of carrying our heavy baby around all the time. Id be great just to strap him in!
July 4th, 2008 at 8:37 am
I have 4 kids, my youngest being 4 months. I have been wanting to try one of these. I have a baby bjorn but using that still doesn’t allow me to get as much done. I think something like this would be very helpful in my very busy household.
July 4th, 2008 at 9:49 am
You know, I love the fact that you say it’s padded. I’m amazed at how hard alot of the surfaces are for things designed for babies, especially the car seats. I could never imagine being comfortable in those things for very long, they are hard and unforgiving. I always say, if you can’t handle it, what makes you think your baby would!! This sounds like a great product I would love to try!

Wish I had that for the first 3 babies I had!!! It’s amazing, the things you learn to do with one arm when you got a baby in you other arm.

July 5th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
With a 3 year old and 14 month old, I am a big fan of babywearing. It would be impossible to do anything around the house!
July 5th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
My friend’s daughter just had a preemie. Her husband’s job takes him out of town ten days at a time–this would come in handy when little Olivia is big enough!
July 5th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

What a great carrier - thanks for having this giveaway! Good luck everyone!
July 5th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
My son is definitely at that stage where he gets upset if I leave the room. He’s so curious, too! He loves to be able to look around at what’s going on. Using this would allow me to free up my hands and still give him the attention that he nees. I wonder if using this will qualify as excercise…. ;^)
July 5th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
I am a big fan of baby carriers. Not only do babies love being carried this way, but I believe it is safer to use when I go out shopping because my eyes are never off my baby. But, the carrier we purchased for this baby is so uncomfortable. The straps are not supportive and the baby seems to hang the wrong way. I would love to try the Scootababy because it looks much more supportive than what I am using now.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
My daughter-in-law is going to need this very soon.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:31 pm

They are a young couple and can use all the help they can get.
July 6th, 2008 at 5:38 am
We could really use a Scootababy at our house. My daughter has loved to be held since she was born and with a new baby due in the fall I am going to need my arms free.

This will help me carry on!
July 6th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Wow that’s a great idea.
July 6th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
At 12 months my son still loves and wants to be carried a lot of the time, particularly when we’re out. He isn’t walking yet so we’ve also took to babywearing because it’s too difficult to carry a squirmy baby who doesn’t walk and wants to be held. Sounds like a great carrier since it allows for older, bigger babies. My son is around 22 pounds so while he isn’t terribly heavy, it is exhausting carrying him for any length of time. Did you find this to be comfortable? Did it hurt anywhere? Shoulders, neck, back, etc?
July 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
very nice, i hope I win it!
July 6th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
We could use this. My son is 7 months and likes to ride on me but he already weighs 20 lbs so this would help me with holding him up. Thanks
July 6th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
This is a great way to carry a baby around, hands free!
July 6th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Fine idea for a carrier
July 6th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
This would be perfect for our little one. Her mom never gets a free hand.
July 6th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
This would be fantastic for my sister who just had a beautiful baby girl. She is always running around trying to keep up with her other daughter so she could really use this!
July 6th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
This would be great for my 1 month old son when he’s a bit bigger!! He loves to be held (and I love to hold him!!)!!
July 6th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
would love to give this to my friend, expecting very soon!
July 6th, 2008 at 6:57 pm

July 6th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Count me in please.
July 6th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
wow. At nearly 4 my son still loves to be carried sometimes (and I have to confess that I still love to carry him, too). He’s a wirey, skinny kid and he hangs on me like a monkey which makes it easier, but yes, this product would do the trick, too–of course, on a much younger child!
July 6th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
I love this and it would be great for my friend who is expecting a baby boy in August. What a great giveaway!
July 6th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Aw shucks — no more excuses for a messy house. LOL This looks practical as well as comfortable to use. Thanks for a wonderful giveaway.
July 6th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
While I personally have no need for this, I would love to win this for a woman at our church. She had twins. At almost 6 months the precious little girl passed away from a bad heart which even the doctors had not caught. Now the mama carries her other twin, a boy, all the time with her. He is just a tad over 6 months so I think this would be perfect for them, to keep her baby close while being a comfy fit for the mama.
Blessings to you and thank you again for ANOTHER wonderful opportunity!
