Mozart’s Magic Flute Diaries recently was awarded Best Family Film at the Staten Island Film Festival in Canada.
My husband and I watched the film after our daughter’s bedtime several weeks ago. Although it certainly is clean and refreshingly devoid of sexuality, violence, or language, I wouldn’t necessarily categorize it as a “family film” because the plot is a bit too serious and “grown-up” for young ones. The genre would best be described as “drama” or simply “opera.” This film is truly for the classical music aficionado. Brimming with elaborate costumes, operatic humor, and a full dose of Mozart’s musical masterpieces, The Magic Flute Diaries is not your latest blockbuster hit. What it IS is a tasteful piece of culture.

I have always been curious about this opera, but since musicals are definitely not hubby’s thing, I haven’t had an opportunity to see it. Maybe if I bring it home in movie form it will be a little more palatable for him… or maybe it will just give him the opportunity to knock it out loud. Hmmmm… worth a shot anyways!
