THAT was easy…{our taxes are done and it’s not even March}

j03168681 150x99 THAT was easy...{our taxes are done and its not even March}Several years back, my husband and I went to H&R Block to get our taxes done. We dutifully brought our paperwork and sat in front of a guy in his sixties. He asked us question after question – prompted by the computer screen in front of him. The process was long – mundane – and there were a few questions that we couldn’t answer because we had forgotten this receipt or that document.

Then, we (okay, fine…my husband…he’s really the Tax Guy around here) discovered TurboTax.  And we’ve been trying to persuade our friends to switch over ever since.

It’s Simple. Easy. Affordable. Convenient. Perfect for Busy Parents.

And TurboTax guarantees that you’ll get your biggest possible tax refund.

3025712234 0268cdb01f THAT was easy...{our taxes are done and its not even March}This is how wonderful it is: You sit down at your computer and answer questions in your timeframe (the process is streamlined and organized). You can even collect the necessary paperwork as you go.

Oops! The baby is crying or dinner needs to be made or your daughter’s basketball game starts in five minutes! No problem! Just save it and come back later. No rush, no hassle.

As you go, your “totals” will adjust so that you know how much you owe…or how much you will be refunded. And TurboTax even “flags” any potential problems.

Best of all, if you use TurboTax once, filing your taxes in subsequent years is even easier because the program will automatically import your tax info from the previous year. Sweet!

Still worried it will be confusing? You can live chat with a TurboTax rep 24/7 or call the FREE hotline.

It’s easy-peasy. Try it once and you’ll be a “convert” forever. Well, at least until you become a billionaire. Then, you might want to hire a pro…

YOUR TURN: Have you filed your taxes yet? “How” (TurboTax, H&R, private accountant, etc.) do you usually file?

premier left 108x150 THAT was easy...{our taxes are done and its not even March}WIN IT! There will be three winners. Each winner will receive a code to file their Federal and State tax returns…FREE…with TurboTax (good for Premier bundle, valued at $85). Seagate…Preventing Sob Stories

What would you do if you lost:

  • All of your photos and videos?
  • Your blog posts?
  • Your essays/projects for school or work?
  • That book you’ve been slowly working away on?

I know exactly what I would do. I would sit down on the floor with a box of Kleenex and sob. Really.

I’m not a materialistic person so if you spill ketchup on my new white sweater, I’ll be mildly out-of-sorts for a moment…but then I’ll probably smile and go about my day, not another thought about it.

seagate 2c pos wr 150x73 Seagate...Preventing Sob StoriesBut when it comes to my creative output – my photos, my words, those timeless and irreplaceable moments of brilliance – I’m much more sensitive. Which is why I take precautions.

Seagate recently gave me an opportunity to test out their hard drives and I can’t wait to tell you all about them.

778904 99x150 Seagate...Preventing Sob StoriesIf you’re looking for the behemoth of hard drives to back up a large quantity of data (perhaps from several different family members’ computers…), you’ll want to check out the FreeAgent Desk Drive. Available to hold between 500GB and 1.5TB, the Desk Drives range from $89.99-$179.99.

The FreeAgent Go, on the other hand, is the ultimate portable storage solution. It’s sleek, stylish, and almost silent.

go colors 300x89 Seagate...Preventing Sob Stories

You’ll love that you can toss it in your purse so that you can back up and/or share your multimedia on-the-go. Its super-thin and there are ten colors to choose from. You can choose between 250GB, 320GB, and 500GB options ($99.99-$149.99).

Both drive options are simple-to-use (they come with pre-loaded software to make the whole process super easy) and include a 5-year limited warranty.

The price tags may seem a little hefty at first glance, but…really…is there a price tag on your work? Your perfectly crafted blog posts? Your daughter’s 1st birthday party? Your son’s championship baseball game? I think not.

Want to win a little pocketful of peace?

Here’s how to enter: Leave a comment that answers one or both of the following questions: (1) Do you currently back up your data? (2) Have you ever lost photos/documents/work on your computer? Share your “sob story.”

First prize: 1TB FreeAgent Desk Drive ($149.99) AND 1 320GB FreeAgent Go ($129.99)

Second prize: 1 500GB FreeAgent Go Drive ($149.99)

Winners will be drawn randomly. Two winners will be selected. The entry deadline is Sunday, March 8, 2009. (Don’t forget to follow the rules…all generic comments like “Enter me!,” “Love it,” and “Cool stuff!” will be disqualified.). * Winners must provide U.S. mailing addresses.

*UPDATE* The first prize winner is #491 lace and the second prize winner is #162 Darcy. Congratulations!

Workin’ Girl Themed Weekend – Take Two!

workin girl 2 123x150 Workin Girl Themed Weekend Take Two!The highly anticipated Workin’ Girl Themed Weekend is finally here…with over $900 worth of giveaways (and some excellent resources as well).

Stay tuned through Monday for fun…and free stuff for fortunate winners.

I’ll kick off the weekend with this little poem I found about motherhood:

Dear Lord, it’s such a hectic day
With little time to stop and pray
For life’s been anything but calm
Since You called on me to be a mom
Running errands, matching socks
Building dreams with building blocks
Cooking, cleaning, and finding shoes
And other stuff that children lose
Gitting lids on bottled bugs
Wiping tears and giving hugs
A stack of last week’s mail to read
So where’s the quiet time I need?
Yet when I steal a minute, Lord
Just at the sink or ironing board
To ask the blessings of Your grace
I seen then, in my small one’s face
That you have blessed me
All the while
And I stop to kiss
That precious smile

How to Help A Friend Who Has Morning Sickness

hthaf morning sickness 123x150 How to Help A Friend Who Has Morning SicknessAs many of you know, I experience rather extreme morning sickness with my pregnancies. The first one was bad; the second one was worse. Four months of misery.

I’ll never know why I’m one of the lucky minority that gets the privilege of becoming fast friends with Vomit and Fatigue and Dehydration, but I do know that I now have an acute empathy for all those who experience it. And I know how to help.

If you have a friend who suddenly drops off the face of the earth during the 1st trimester, there actually are a few things you can do to help:

j0387617 150x150 How to Help A Friend Who Has Morning Sickness1. Erase all food-related words from your vocabulary when you’re around her. Don’t talk about your new favorite ice cream flavor or the awful restaurant you just tried for the first time. Don’t suggest licorice or pineapple or ginger cubes. And whatever you do, don’t discuss E. Coli or salmonella or the hair that you found on your plate at the Olive Garden. Food is taboo.

j0387572 150x150 How to Help A Friend Who Has Morning Sickness2. Show up with a meal. Notice that I said, “Show Up with a meal.” NotAsk her if she’d like you to bring a meal.” If you do the latter, then you risk breaking the first cardinal rule (see #1). I guarantee that it will not help to ask if she prefers chicken enchiladas or pasta bake. In fact, the meal is as much for her hungry and overextended family as it for her. Cook up whatever your heart desires, stop by, hand it over, don’t talk about the meal, the end. It seems a little weird, I know.

If you want to try and include something that she *might* eat in addition to the meal for the family, throw in:

  • a few bottles of 7-Up or Ginger Ale
  • Jello
  • a loaf of homemade bread
  • a pack of Saltines
  • a pack of licorice
  • any other remedy that worked for you (but don’t talk about it)

j0433068 150x150 How to Help A Friend Who Has Morning Sickness3. Show sympathy. If you’ve never experienced extreme morning sickness, just think about what it would be like if you had the worst case of flu, nausea, and dizziness ever…for four straight months…24/7. Now imagine that it’s worse than that. It’s horrible with a capital H. So forgive her for not responding to e-mails, for not calling you to tell you she was pregnant, for being totally and completely silent. Say, “I’m sorry – it stinks” and not much more. And then bring her another meal…

What I’d Wear Wednesday: 3rd Trimester Corporate Chic

j0438418 What Id Wear Wednesday: 3rd Trimester Corporate ChicNormally, I’d post a Wordless Wednesday photo today. But since we’re all sick and not at the height of cuteness (that’s an understatement), I thought I’d take some inspiration from Damselfly over at Growing A Life.

She has this oh-so-fun weekly column where she shares what she’d wear…if she could wear anything.

If I could wear anything right at this moment, I think I’d choose an ultra-comfy maternity nightgown with very little style or sass.

But that’s a little boring. So, instead I’ll focus on a fashion dilemma for pregnant mamas…looking “corporate” in the third trimester.

As many of you know, I work from home part-time for the local school district and rarely have to make “in-person appearances.” But – every once in awhile – I go in to the office to meet with administrators, reporters, etc. When I do, I want to look professional – competent – clearly valuable.

That’s a tough task at 36 weeks. But I think I’d feel pretty good in Isabella Oliver’s Corporate Pregnancy Kit ($660). I love the simple stylishness of the set, don’t you?

If You’re Sick And You Know It…

j0361042 If Youre Sick And You Know It...Sometimes a girl’s just gotta tuck herself in bed and recuperate.

My sinus infection is still hanging on (although I think my antiobiotic might be kicking in a bit now).

To add to the “weekend fun” around here, our Little Beauty has been feverish and coughy and sick – for the first time in a year.

We had doctors appointments back-to-back today – one for me, one for her.

Thank goodness for my hero of a husband. He has been administering medicine (to our super smart 2-year-old, who doesn’t buy that the medicine tastes good – be it Grape or Bubble Gum) and cooking up chicken soup and letting me sleep all weekend long.

I feel like a very lucky girl indeed.

P.S. The “Workin’ Girl” themed weekend will debut this Friday, February 27 – with over $700 worth of giveaway prizes. See you soon!
