    For the Love of Coffee

    By Stephanie | March 1, 2009

Excuse me. Yes, you there. Do you buy your coffee at the grocery store?

If you do, you’re really missing out. On an excellent opportunity to savor the world’s best coffee. The freshest coffee. Delivered straight to your door. At competitive prices.

cicr-logo-colorCamano Island Coffee Roasters is a company based in Washington State that is committed to providing their customers with “fresh roasted coffee that is organic, shade grown, fairly traded (or also fair trade) and is the top 1 percent of the available coffee market.” Enjoy coffee from Brazil, Columbia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Honduras, and more.

coffeeclubYou can buy coffee by the pound at your leisure or you can sign up for the Coffee Lovers Club (only $24.90 per month). The Club gives you 2 1/2 pounds of coffee of your choice and FREE shipping. Plus, you get a FREE welcome gift (thermos or mug) just for joining and there’s no minimum commitment (try it for one month or for 12…you choose).

Here are a few other reasons that I urge you to consider Camano Island Coffee Roasters (CICR):

    1. CICR is a family company. Not a behemoth business.
    2. CICR is a company that cares about helping the needy.
    3. CICR sells the top 1% of coffee in the world. My husband is a coffee connoisseur and he turns up his nose at Starbucks and the like compared to CICR.
    4. CICR’s coffee is certified organic. No pesticides and other yucky stuff.
    5. The owners are our friends. Really. And they’re congenial, down-to-earth, passionate people who love coffee.

One last cool fact: If you live in or around Camano Island, you can stop in at the actual “headquarters” to take a tour, sample the coffee, or buy some chocolate-covered espresso beans in the gift shop. I’ve been there on several occasions and it’s quite the place (even if you’re not a coffee drinker…there are other options: order tea, cocoa, or a Frozen X-plosion).

So – for the love of coffee – try CICR. I bet you’ll be very pleased indeed.

WIN IT! There will be FIVE winners. Each winner will receive a Coffee Lovers Club shipment (includes 2 1/2 pounds of coffee of winner’s choice and FREE shipping to your door). To enter, leave a topic-related comment on this post prior to Tuesday, March 10 at midnight (Don’t forget to follow the rules…all generic comments like “Enter me!,” “Love it,” and “Cool stuff!” will be disqualified.). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

*UPDATE* The winners are #331 Dorothy, #297 Sarah Z, #135 Michelle Smiles, #59 Susan, and #263 Mamamoose. Congratulations!

Oh, I would absolutely love to win this!

Currently, we drink Trader Joe’s organic french roast. Or Starbucks. But I’d love to try this! And 2.5 pounds would go a long way, here. I’d say that lasts us over a month!

I have taken to buying coffe at “Earthfaire”. I grind it right in the store and keep it in the freeze until I use it. I especially like a Guatamalan coffee that is lightly roasted so there is little acidity and bitterness.

My husband and I are always up for trying new coffee! At present we enjoy Eight O’ Clock Coffee from our supermarket the A & P. We have it ground in the store, the smell is to die for, and I just love the mellow taste. I certainly would love to try a coffee from Washington state, it would be a different experience.

I would love to try this, we just moved to a much more rural area and have difficulty finding respectable coffee- We usually stock up at Trader Joe’s every few months but finding reliable mail order is on my list! As well as a green-minded company. Off to check out their site…

      Thanks for the chance!

I’m not too concerned with coffee helping people, coffee should be sold on it’s own merits

CICR sounds like a great company and I’d love to try their product – especially glad to see that it is an organic coffee! And the level of social responsibility is to be applauded (helping people), hopefully we’ll see a greater and greater level of altruism in the business world as time goes on. Very refreshing :) I give them two opposable thumbs up lol

I am a true coffee hound. I don’t care for Starbucks, I usually buy Dunkin Donuts. But lately, their coffee doesn’t taste as good as it used to. I would love to try this new coffee and the idea of organic is important to me. Thanks for the information.

I enjoy coffee and drink it regularly but since my husband is the real addict in our house, I’m fine with whatever his current preference is. Right now he likes Community Coffee, but I’m really intrigued by your write-up of CICR! Gourmet coffee delivered to our doorstep would be a fun change!

    19. Angie Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 7:10 am

Sounds like a great company. Right now my favorites are Maxwell House regular (I know, I know!), Trader Joes and a variety of Senseo (pods).

I didn’t see Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee (my all time favorite) on the Camano site but the Brazil or Honduras ones sound good. It’s dark roast all the way for me.

I’d never heard of Camano Island Coffee Roasters, so thank you for the information! The coffee sounds wonderful and the company sounds like they are very responsible. Their web site is appealing and there is quite the variety of coffees to choose from! The Honduras Dark Roast sounds yummy, as well as the Peru Dark Roast.

My husband is very particular about his coffee and loves to try new ones. Thanks for the giveaway!

    23. Blessed Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 7:27 am

Coffee is one of the simple joys in my life. I like a wide variety of them. Currently my favorite is from a local company – I love all of their flavors… but I ran out while hubby was out of work so I’m drinking Folger’s right now. He’s working again though so when I run out of this I know what I’ll be buying, unless of course I’m one of the lucky winners!

    24. Dan Maloy Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 7:32 am

I used to live on Camano Island and if this coffee is as good as the country there I am sold.

    25. Leslie M. Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 7:41 am

Life is too short for lousy coffee! I am sitting here reading your Blog, cause that is what I do EVERY morning and with my Coffee. My nephew works for Starbucks so once in a while he will Bless me with is mark-out, not often. Hey, I’ll take it.

To me, it tastes, Burnt, he say’s it is “ROASTED”.. yeah, ok… burnt.

I like the idea of a smaller company that is not to big for that really cares about it’s customers.
I would really love to try this coffee. I can’t think about a day without coffee.
      Leslie

We really emjoy good whole-bean coffee – it’s definitely a favorite splurge. But I’m afraid the budget often dictates (*gulp) Folgers. This sounds like a wonderful company and a great bean!

Hey–I am a mom on Camano Island and I must say that CICR coffee is awesome. (I have a pot brewing in my french press right now!) It is the only coffee I can drink w/o getting tummy gurgles. Plus, it is a great company and the owners (who have become friends now) are the sweetest people. Thanks for the great plug!

    31. Gary Collister Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 8:30 am

I try different coffees all the time. Your Camano Island coffee sounds very interesting. I hope that I win. Good luck to everyone else as well!

    32. Jenny N. Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 8:35 am

I’ve never heard of this brand but would love to try it out. My husband and I are addicted to Caribou coffee — way better than Starbucks in our opinion. But we recently gave 8 o’clock coffee a try. It was rated at the top in a recent survey and happens to cost a fraction of the price of other coffees. I have to admit, CICR’s prices are very tempting…

Thanks for the chance to win!

    33. Tiffany Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 9:00 am

I am one of those who buys her coffee at the grocery store. I use to buy the special ones where you pour your own beans because I loved the vanilla and carmel but due to rising prices I have gone back to the super cheap stuff. I did go on their website and noticed that they have coffee from all over the world. I would love to try those different flavors.

One coffee that I do love and I think I will have to pick some up next time I see it is Kona Coffee – YUM YUM

    34. Tiffany Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 9:07 am

On my goodness – I just realized that you are due in 14 days – it seems as if just yesterday you were sick with morning (all day) sickness. If I was you I would be having this baby anyday now (my girls likes to come early).
I hope everything goes well for you!

    35. Sara Says:
      March 2nd, 2009 at 9:31 am

I just bought some more coffee yesterday at the grocery store. I did however buy a local brand so that’s not quite as bad! I think it’d be great fun to have really good coffee arrive on my door step. I’ve been more of a coffee drinker lately (I’m not entirely sure that’s all that much of a good thing but oh well) and I’ve actually realized that I can now tell the difference in coffee quality. It all used to just taste the same to me.

The last time I had what I considered to be the perfect cup of coffee was 30 years ago at the Seelbach Hotel in Louisville, KY. It was rich, nutty flavorable. I begged my girlfriend (now my wife) to taste it saying THIS is the way coffee is supposed to taste! She haughtly refused since she is not a coffee drinker (her loss). So, it would be great to sample your coffee. Jim

I’ll earn points with my husband!

I was most recently working for Peet’s before my youngest was born and coffee is 100% my passion. I love small family run companies and trying new brands but there are so many out there it is hard to try them all! I would love to try this coffee and learn more about this company. This is so for me. I am a coffee fanatic. I would/could drink it all day long if it weren’t for my bladder not being able to handle it all. I have a great coffeepot that has a burr grinder so I only buy beans, but have yet to find any that blow me away. The best cup of coffee I’ve ever had was on a cruise and they had the BEST Jamaica Blue coffee. It was the way they made it that made it so great, almost like an espresso or something. It was very thick and frothy and within ten minutes of drinking it you’d be bouncing off the walls.
I’m really interested in trying this out.

BTW, if you have an ice cream maker, get some of the chocolate covered espresso beans. I make coffee ice cream and throw them in in the last couple of minutes. Coffee ice cream heaven!

I’m currently working on a bag of Blue Mountain that I’m grinding, slowly, on demand, and storing under air-tight seals until each batch is (sob) gone… So of COURSE I’m interested to hear about CICR — although I groan at being juuust about as faaar away as I can be and still be in the continental US (i.e., Florida; generally can’t complain TOO much, though)… Here’s hoping!

I am another person that hordes “good” coffee and portions it out very carefully. I loved the fact that this site offers fairly traded coffees. The different blends just sound fantastic and make me wish I could add a few to my “good” coffee stash!

That fresh-ground, fresh-brewed cup first thing in the morning… And then the extra strong brew, preserved in the fridge, to mix in with the protein shake “fixin’s”… Flavors the day, and gets my motor runnin’! And you’re speaking of new flavors and blends — going to have to try ‘em out!
