Announcements

Birth Matters Virginia, a non-profit organization that exists to provide “education, support, and resources” to pregnant women, recently held a video contest. They just announced the winners. Each video is 4-7 minutes and almost all of them include photos and/or video footage from real births. So beautiful! Several of the videos totally made me cry. All of the videos are great, but I especially enjoyed: “Home birth/water birth of Judah Darwin“ because it reminded me so much of the birth of my second daughter.

Do you live in California? Get ready for the San Ramon ecofestival (“good green fun for everyone“), scheduled for August 29 & 30, 2009. There will be a kids zone, a food court, a job fair, a fashion show, and more!

Damselfly {Growing A Life} just gave birth to her second baby on June 30. It’s a boy! Go congratulate her when you get a chance.

Miscellany

If you like West Side Story and you love being online, you’ll probably get a kick out of this CollegeHumor video: Web Site Story. It made me laugh.

Linda Swain {Moms on the Move} recently interviewed Rebecca Matthias, a mother of 3 and CEO and founder of Motherswork Inc., the largest maternity wear company in the world. I thought the video clip was pretty inspirational.

Here is a map of obesity rates in the U.S. {msnbc.com, 7-1-09}. What is the rate in your state?

  1. Blessed says:

The Web Site Story video is totally funny – I saw it the other day! Thanks for the list of great links I’ve got five or six to go read now and I see that the obesity rate in my state is 25-30%… gotta start working on making sure I’m not part of that statistic!

  2. Sara says:

Ahh yes, one more reason I really wish we had an Ikea nearby.

  3. Gina says:

    Thanks for the shout out!!!

  4. Madeline says:

    The birth video was awesome.

And, about obesity. I don’t even have to check the map. Mississippi is the fattest state in the whole entire country. It’s sad but true.

  5. I’ve been quite interested in nursing rooms recently – they are a part of a number of stores and malls that I never noticed before having Elizabeth. I was quite impressed with the one at Cloverdale (Etobicoke) (NB the pictures of the nursing room are at the bottom of the page), but it’s not nearly as fancy as the one featured at IKEA. I’ll have to go check out our local IKEA (Ottawa).

  6. Angie says:

When I was still nursing I used the IKEA nursing room and it was fabulous! I was thrilled another time to see that they also provid wipes in the “regular” bathrooms at their changing stations (along with diapers) when my son had a blowout and it took all I had to clean him up. Ahh… memories…

  7. thanks for getting the word out about my contest…and loved the johnny truant article.
