Welcome to “Tuesday Tours: What’s Happening on the Web” where I serve as your tour guide and showcase the best contests, freebies, deals, and reads for moms on the web…all in one convenient location.
Contests
Christina {Mommy’s Must Haves} is giving away a $50 gift card to JCPenney. I’d love to win since my wardrobe is in dire need of inspiration these days and JCPenney has fantastic prices (I particularly like this Worthington V-neck Cardigan Sweater, this American Living Ruffle Skirt, and this Izod Bohemian Top…and that’s just for starters!). Deadline: July 17.
I haven’t posted See Kai Run giveaways in awhile so here are a few for you: icefairy’s treasure chest {Deadline: 7-20}, The Bragging Mommy {Deadline: 7/21}, and babybix blog {Deadline: 7-31}.
Are you a new mama or mama-to-be? Check out these giveaways: Bebe au Lait Nursing Cover {Baby Loving Mama, Deadline: 7-23}, The Shower Hug {Cool Baby Kid, Deadline 7-23}, and Boob Nursing Top {Mama Knows Breast, 8-1}.
Cool Deals
Vincent Shoes is having a big summer sale, with several of their designs 50-75% off. I especially love these Malin sandals for girls ($10.25) and these Bobby sandals for boys ($23.95).
Good Reads
Becky Newson {The Newson Narrative} asks: “What’s in *your* sunscreen?” Be sure you check the label before you lather up.
As you know, I don’t espouse the cry-it-out sleep method. Neither does the blogger behind PhD in Parenting. Read her recent post on the topic. I bet it will make you think, make you mad, or have you nodding your head in adamant agreement. I like thought-provoking posts like that.
Another good read from PhD in Parenting: “A time to wean? Your opinion, others opinions and how to deal.”
Katie {Claire Alyse Photography} shares: “how to become a photographer.” Photography is one of my favorite hobbies and reading my camera manual is definitely on my to-do list.
Have you heard the term “Pit to Distress“? Apparently, it is a term that is used in hospitals to describe the action of administering the highest possible dosage of Pitocin to a laboring woman, with the intention of deliberately distressing the fetus, so a C-section can be performed. I agree with Leigh {Marvelous Kiddo} that the practice is “horrifying and upsetting.”
While we’re on the topic of birth, read dooce’s recent post where she adamantly recommends the book “Your Best Birth” by Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein. The language in the post is a bit crude at times, but the post is well-written and the main point is important.
Rachel {Small Notebook for a simple home} shares “20 Tips to Waste Less Food.”
Miscellany
A healthy, easy-to-make, and fun summer treat: Frozen Grape Pops {via Make and Takes}.
Making a cheesecake or ice cream pie? Try this Homemade Graham Cracker Crust {via Make and Takes}.
I want one of these: Taga.

Oooo I want a Taga too!
I love dooce. I can’t wait to hear the rest of her labor story.
What a cool stroller!…or bike…or both!
Thanks for linking to my blog post about sunscreen. I hope other people find it useful!
I read the pit-to-distress thing, thanks to Facebook. It’s horrifying to think that this is actually going on, isn’t it?!?
Going to HAVE to make grape pops. Used to eat frozen grapes all the time, back in college. My kids haven’t even tried it yet!
Loved the other “good reads” you linked to… and that stroller/bike looks AMAZING. Next they need to do a double, for those of us with 2 kids who’d need to ride! :)
Ah, leave it to the Dutch to figure out an (even) better way to transport kids on a bike. Although I still love all the Dutch moms who manage to cart two kids — one in front, one in back — and her groceries on one bike. A sight to behold!
Especially loving your good reads!
Thanks for the shout out! ;) -Katie @ Claire Alyse Photography
