Tuesday Tours: What’s Happening on the Web

    By Stephanie | October 21, 2009

Tuesday ToursWelcome to “Tuesday Tours: What’s Happening on the Web” where I serve as your tour guide and showcase the best contests, freebies, deals, and reads for moms on the web…all in one convenient location.

    Contests

Have I mentioned how much I love Tea Collection? I think I might dress my girls in all Tea if I could. You’ll find me entering to win a $100 certificate at Tangled and True {Deadline: Oct. 23} and a $75 certificate at Now What Baby? {Deadline: Oct. 29}.

This product seems phony, but it’s really phenomenal. In fact, I wouldn’t shower without it for the first few weeks after I had baby #2. Win a Shower Hug of your own over at The Life Of A College Stay Home Mom before Oct. 28.

Design a dress for Shabby Apple and your design could be featured as part of the Shabby Apple spring collection. The winner will receive 3% on every dress sold of his/her design. Submit your entry before Nov. 3.

Enter to win a $50 gift card to The Children’s Place over at 5 Minutes for Giveaways before Nov. 6.

    Deals

In the market for nursing/maternity clothes or sleepwear? Ruby of Better Mommy Fashions is offering 30% off her ENTIRE store through Oct. 31. My advice? Buy a Majamas pajamas set. They are sooooo comfy (and pretty too).

    Announcements

Deborah is one of my blog readers. She just started a blog, entitled Queen Bee (hooray for her!). Please do hop on over and give her a warm welcome into the blogosphere. K?

    Good Reads

Perhaps some people are meant to blog…and others are meant to read blogs and leave comments. Read Heather’s insightful post: It’s the weirdest thing {A Sprinkle a Day}.

Have you weighted the risks of benefits of getting the flu shot this season? Megan {SortaCrunchy} writes an intelligent and informative piece on the topic: 5 Things Parents Should Know About the H1N1 Vaccination.

Another thought-provoking post on vaccines that is worth reading: You’ve gotta get them vaccinated {Motherhood Uncensored}.

Read Ellen Malmon’s recent article for The Huffington Post – Peaceful Revolution: Why Support for Breastfeeding Matters More Than Ever.

Heather {Freebies 4 Mom} shares a fun way to Advertise Your Blog on Halloween.

    Miscellany

I just heard the news. An H&M is coming to Arizona! Does anyone know when it will open?

I’m not a Twitter Quitter, but I’m certainly not a Twitter Expert either. I think I need Allison Worthington’s new ebook: The Smart Girl’s Guide to Twitter.

If you’re pregnant and you see a sign like this when you’re touring the hospital, run away…very fast.

Oh my goodness! I can’t believe that hospital sign. Wow. There are some crazy allowances with birth these days… namely OBs are allowed to intervene WAY too much. But apparently this hospital thinks that your personal voice is an imposition and intervention they don’t want. Amazing.
      Yes, run… fast.

H&M rules. you are going to be so happy.

That sign is such bs. How awful! Do you know where that is?

I can’t believe that sign!! I would have run away if I had seen a sign like that! I wouldn’t have had such smooth labors if it weren’t for my fabulous doula being in my face telling me when to breath during my crazy fast labors!

Brilliant links as always, Stephanie! (Many humble thanks for the SC link.) I learn so much on Tuesdays from you. How do you get to everything?! :)

That sign is just INSANE, but at least you know what you are getting into when you choose to deliver there. Although I am sure for some people (because of various circumstances), they don’t have a choice in where they deliver. So sad.

Thanks for the links about vaccinations – I always appreciate well thought out, sane, reasonable discussions of vaccinations like that. After long talks with my friend the RN and my awesome pediatrician I have chosen to vaccinate my kids (although we’re skipping the flu vaccine right now). The choice to vaccinate has made me the outlaw among my inlaws, but the reasons I hear them give for not vaccinating sound like fear mongering to me so we’ve had to agree to disagree and not talk about it :)

So this has nothing to do with this post but I was wondering if you have any recommendations for cute (not cutesy) “I’m a Big Brother” or “I’m going to be a Big Brother” or “The Big Brother” type shirts – we’re looking for something that my 4 year old would like to wear & that doesn’t cost a whole lot. I know I could make one myself, but I’m not going to try and trick myself into thinking it would look good =) Since you seem to find cute kids clothing places, I thought you might know of one. Thanks!

Is that a real sign? I kinda wish the hospital I went to had posted something similar. I’d have at least gotten a heads up.

I’m sooo jealous to hear than an H&M might be coming to a town near you! I loved shopping there when I lived in Boston…I miss it so much!

That hospital sign is horrid, but at least they warn you. I can’t imagine what problem they would have with Bradley births (my favorite!) or a doula!
