FOR GRANDPARENTS: CEIVA Digital Photo Frames

ceiva digital photo frame FOR GRANDPARENTS: CEIVA Digital Photo FramesOur girls are fortunate to have three sets of great-grandparents still around. They are all super sweet and adoring, but…Grandpa Sheaffer, in particular, dotes on them. He always says that they are the prettiest and the smartest girls around (along with their cousin Ava, who is both pretty + smart).

If he doesn’t see them for a week, he always calls to make sure that we know about it. He likes to hold the baby and to buy fruit smoothies for our 3-year-old. And he always asks for pictures.

For the longest time, I wasn’t very good about that. I took hundreds of pictures, but rarely got around to…you know…actually printing them.

Then, I started The Grandparents Project and it’s been a huge hit.

Most recently, however, we gifted Grandpa Sheaffer with a CEIVA Digital Photo Frame. He opened it and said. “thank you,” but it was obvious he didn’t quite know what to make of it.

digital picture frame FOR GRANDPARENTS: CEIVA Digital Photo FramesAfter we explained and set it up, he was thoroughly delighted. He now has a steady stream of recent photos that display in slide show fashion all throughout the day.

AND we can send pictures to the frame from absolutely anywhere – even from our phones. How cool is that?

The PicturePlan Photo Delivery Service is easy-to-use, efficient, and fast. It’s nice to be able to remotely send new pictures to the frame…and the recipient doesn’t even need to have an Internet service! The frame can connect via Wi-Fi, but it also works over the phone line.

CEIVA frames are sure to be one of the most-talked about and memorable gifts of the season. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving!

FOR HIM: Alpha Pac boots by Sorel

guy in the garage FOR HIM: Alpha Pac boots by SorelThere are cold weather people and there are warm weather people.

Tim is the former and I am the latter.

He likes trudging through the snow and ice, wearing bulky jackets, and sipping hot coffee.

I like basking in the sunshine, wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and sipping icy lemonade.

That said, we both can appreciate the perspective of the other.

I, for example, DO understand the magnificence of a quiet morning of snowflakes floating unhurriedly from the sky. I DO like wearing pea coats and boots. And I DO think that drinking caramel apple cider at a bookstore during a storm is a delightful way to pass an afternoon.

I just don’t like scraping snow off my windshield, driving on icy pavement, or that uncomfortable feeling when the cold air seeps through your shoes to your toes.

Sorel recently offered to send me a pair of boots to review. I fleetingly looked at the gorgeous women’s boots (especially after I saw April wearing hers! So cute!), but then I did the practical thing (I am a very practical person, as you may be aware) and told my husband to pick out a pair. After all, he will be the one that will be more likely to go snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and pioneering in cold weather. I will go do all of that too…eventually…but probably not until I’m beyond the pregnancy/baby season of my life.

alpha pac boots FOR HIM: Alpha Pac boots by SorelTim selected the Alpha Pac boots ($130). They are solid, sturdy, stylish boots…strong enough to keep even the most arctic temperatures at bay (the Alpha Pac is a -60 below zero rated boot). The cold air certainly won’t be creeping in to HIS toes this winter. He’ll also be able to keep his footing on slippery services, thanks to the multi-directional rubber outsole AND his natural aptitude for such things.

If a guy on your list likes winter sports or lives in a cold weather climate, he is sure to be stoked (Can I say that word…or is it too 1990s? I told you I was a dork…) to receive these boots.

P.S. You can Follow Sorel on Twitter or Fan their Facebook page to stay up on all of the latest contests, products, and promotions.

P.P.S. Isn’t it funny that he’s wearing shorts with the boots in these photos? I said, “Quick! I want to take a picture of you in your new boots!” So he put them on – and he just so happened to have shorts on. Such is life in Arizona. I, for one, am glad that it’s not even close to being -60 degrees.

YOUR TURN: Are you more of a warm weather person or a cold weather person?

Win $100 for Holiday Travels or Entertaining

Screen shot 2009 11 29 at 7.23.58 PM 150x75 Win $100 for Holiday Travels or EntertainingThe PR company behind Scott Products recently contacted me to ask if I would write about Scott Common Sense Community, a website that provides, “tips, tools, and solutions that enhance your every day life.” Essentially, it’s an information hub where you can read articles about how to manage your time, money, and home…and you can submit your own ideas too.

At first, I was kind of like, “eh…I don’t know. I have so much to write about.”

one hundred dollar bill Win $100 for Holiday Travels or EntertainingBut then they offered to give one of my readers $100 for holiday traveling, entertaining, or gift-giving. I didn’t want to pass up that opportunity because how cool is it that one of you will be one hundred dollars richer in a week?

I’ve spent some time perusing the site and here are my initial thoughts:

  • I LIKE the Scott Naturals line. Since I regularly purchase and use paper towels (I try to minimize my use of “disposables” as much as possible, but sometimes…), I appreciate that the products are made and packaged with post-consumer recycled materials.
  • THAT SAID, I’m confused why there is a “regular” line that is less environmentally friendly. Shouldn’t all products be made with our world in mind?
  • I LIKE that Scott is making an attempt to connect with moms (I really like that!).
  • THAT SAID, the site is too scattered to be of optimal use. As a busy mom, I simply do not have time to search under a general category like “Easy Organizing.” Yes, I want to be organized AND yes, I want it to be easy. BUT I can’t search through pages of reader-submitted tips that are not efficiently organized.
  • I LIKE that Scott Products is partnering with two of the brightest minds in the blogosphere – Susan Carraretto (5 Minutes for Mom) and Amy Clark (MomAdvice).
  • THAT SAID, the company should shine the spotlight on Susan and Amy even more brightly. Both women are funny, smart, and have a wealth of knowledge to share…yet their blog posts are “hidden” on the main page. Scott should make them the “main attraction” of the website – with full photos on the front page, their best hints and tips, etc. They are celebrities and should be treated as such.

Also: Scott Products should set up a Twitter account. {Have I mentioned I really like Twitter lately? If you like, you can follow me @stephsday.}

One last thing before I go – Scott Products will be rolling out some brand new content tomorrow to help you with your holiday planning. Stay tuned.

YOUR TURN: What do you think of the Scott Common Sense Community website? Would you use it? Why or why not?

WIN IT! One winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card to use in any way that he/she pleases. To enter, leave any topic-related comment on this post prior to Monday, December 7th at 11:59 p.m. (Don’t forget to follow the rules…all generic comments like “Enter me!,” “Love it,” and “Cool stuff!” will be disqualified.).

Themed Weekend: Ho-Ho-Holidays

Isn’t it strange how holidays often end up being the most stressful time of year? We worry about what to wear and how to wear it, what to eat and how to cook it. We hustle and bustle and get to places late. We get a little snappier rather than happier.

{Oh, wait. Maybe that’s just us.}

thanksgiving craft turkey with feathers Themed Weekend: Ho Ho HolidaysTake Thanksgiving morning, for example. We were rushing around. I was attempting to make sweet potato casserole (for the first time in my life); Tim was attempting to get ready for his upcoming dirt biking trip to the dunes. Our 8-month-old decided she wanted to be part of the action and cried a most sorrowful cry if we put her down for even half a millisecond so one of us was incapacitated the whole morning.

Tim was a little upset because “we” had to make sweet potatoes, stating quite crossly that he wouldn’t bring anything at all if it were up to him. I was upset because I was making the potatoes singlehandedly, plus I got a little bit defensive and pointed out that I *always* have to be the one to pack “THE BAG” for the our girls too. You know the one – with diapers, wipes, extra clothes, etc. Not exaggerating about that.

an hour late for thanksgiving Themed Weekend: Ho Ho HolidaysFinally, after much pomp and circumstance, we got in the car in a huff and arrived at his parents an hour late for breakfast. Yes, an HOUR. Embarrassing.

It was our fault. We should’ve woken up early. We should’ve made the potatoes the night before. We should’ve planned ahead. we shoulda, shoulda, shoulda.

All of the grumpiness made us both wish we could just cancel the festivities, order a pizza, and stay home instead.

But then we arrived and everyone was gracious. My mother-in-law had made my favorite Whole Wheat Cinnamon Rolls. My father-in-law made me a mug of coffee with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. And my 3-year-old quite sweetly announced, “Sorry we’re late!” without any prompting. And I realized that I have it good. Really, Really, Really Good.

Oh, and – for the record – the sweet potatoes were delicious. I couldn’t help but notice that my non-sweet-potato-eating husband put a mound on his plate and gladly ate the whole thing.

YOUR TURN: How was your Thanksgiving? Were you snappy or happy?

***This weekend is entitled Ho-Ho-Holidays because it’s all about prepping for Christmas. I am also happy to say that I am going to continue to play Santa this weekend – I have lots of fun giveaways and gift ideas to come.

FOR KIDS: a nice pair of shoes

eleven collection sylvie FOR KIDS: a nice pair of shoesLast night, she prayed before dinner. With her eyes squeezed halfway shut, she said, “Dear God, Thank you for mommy and daddy. Thank you that other kids not get hurt. Thank you that other kids not fall down. And thank you for this food. The End.”

Then, she smiled a silly, sweet smile – and asked for “A LOT” of Ranch dressing to go with her chicken.

I’m liking age three so far. It can be frustrating, but it’s also fresh and new and full of conversations. I love her questions and I love her answers (In case, you haven’t noticed: 3-year-olds are exceedingly wise about very important matters).

I love that she dresses herself and sleeps in her own bed and can ride a bike. I love that she picks out long books from the bookshelf and will actually sit through the entire story – chiming in with observations and making dramatic facial expressions. I love that she has distinct preferences and I love that she gets so excited about the most “insignificant” things.

She is an extraordinary girl and I have a feeling that this is going to be an extraordinary year.

——————————————————————————————————————

You may not have noticed her shoes in the above photo because her smile is undeniably taking the spotlight, but now that I’m directing your attention – aren’t they cute? They are the Sylvie dress shoes ($50) from Eleven Collection.

Did you know that Eleven (and sister company, See Kai Run) is my FAVORITE brand for kids shoes? It’s true. The shoes are sturdy, buttery soft, and super stylish.

See…

Told you so.

If you are a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, or the friend of a 2.5 to 8-year-old, consider buying a durable, fashionable pair of shoes from Eleven this Christmas. It’s a gift that MAY end up under the bed, but that will be pulled out again and again all throughout the year.
