Tuesday Tours: What’s Happening on the Web
By Stephanie | December 9, 2009
Welcome to “Tuesday Tours: What’s Happening on the Web” where I serve as your tour guide and showcase the best contests, freebies, deals, and reads for moms on the web…all in one convenient location.
Contests
Graco is hosting a really fun promotion over the next twelve days called Get One and Give One. Essentially, you enter to win one baby product for you and one to give away to a non-profit organization or a needy friend.
Marie {Make and Takes} is giving away “10 fun prizes for 10 fabulous winners.” Leave a comment before Dec. 10.
Good Reads
Did you catch the inspiring and tear-inducing story about Stephanie Nielson {NieNie Dialogues} in the Arizona Republic? If you didn’t, you should.
Sherry {Young House Love} writes about the psychology of colors in her recent post: Calm? Cranky? Might Be Your Walls…
Maria Bailey writes an informative post about how companies can maximize their use of Twitter (and why they should set up a Twitter account in the first place): I Love Twitter. You Should, Too.
Scott Williams {Big Is The New Small} shares his insightful thoughts on The Twitter Effect on Blogging.
Courtney Briggs writes about why being a good public speaker matters and gives tips on how you can become a better one: Present Your Way to the Top {Hybrid Mom}.
Planning a trip to Disney World or Disneyland? Check out Janna’s Best Disney Tips. They’re good ones, by the way.
Tanya reminds us to speak up about about good and bad breastfeeding experiences in local hospitals. I would say that the same thing applies to your labor & delivery experience. DO write a letter or make a phone call. Your words could help other moms.
Miscellany
Greg & Susan at Domestic Sophisticate share a brilliant idea for keeping necklaces organized and untangled. I have since copied this idea.
Got morning sickness? Try ReliefBand and then tell me if it works. (I’m not pregnant, in case you’re wondering. I just want to know. For friends. For the future.).
Pregnant? Old Navy has maternity dresses and skirts on-sale for $10-$30.
Jo-Lynne {Musings of a Housewife} shares some fabulous Holiday Gift Ideas for Her. I especially like the last two.
Download a free song by Casting Crowns from Amazon.com – I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day.
This video reminded me what Christmas is about, what it should be about: Advent Conspiracy.
Have you read all about John & Sherry’s wedding? They’re the bloggers behind Young House Love and I think I’m the last one in the world to discover their site. It is AWESOME. I am especially loving all their How-To projects (Can somebody give me 24 hours just to look through their site, please?).

I have completely failed at the whole twitter thing. I’ve heard the tips and tricks, but it’s just one added headache. I think I’ll have to study those links a bit more closely.

Great variety of links this week. Thanks!
As for Twitter, my handle is my name so I’m tweeting about a variety of things which I think might have to change in the near future. I think the more tightly focused the niche is, the better. So I’ll have my name for personal and business and have a separate one for weight loss/fitness.
I already do some social media (Twitter) for a client and it’s tough to keep up with their account and mine so I can only imagine what it will be like adding more. Yikes!

Yeah – I still don’t “get” twitter. I’ve got a blog and facebook, and adding twitter just seems like one more variation on the theme.
But #4 sounded vaguely interesting. Maybe I’ll think about joining the twitter age.
