As you know, I’m a fan of “Pride & Prejudice” from the BabyLit series. This English major’s heart couldn’t help but be captivated.

When I saw that a “Romeo & Juliet” board book had also come out, I wondered how the author might handle the delicate and depressing subject matter. I needn’t have worried.

The sturdy and delightful book counts from 1 to 10, alongside images inspired by Shakespeare’s famous novel (with no mention of the couple’s fateful death). Parents will appreciate the opportunity to be reacquainted with the melancholic characters, while little ones learn their numbers!

      The illustrations really are creative, aren’t they? Wait until you see the rest of the book. Also, I liked the pictures in Pride & Prejudice even better!

    I saw this recently and was totally enchanted – as a lit lover, I would have LOVED a book like this when my girls were little (sigh). It would be the perfect intro to good lit for my niece. Thank you for more info and for the giveaway!

    What a creative idea! I am looking for bold, yet simple board books to teach my daughter with special needs some fundamentals like numbers and letters. I bet she would really like the illustrations and colors in this book, and the numbers are big and bold. Thanks for introducing me to this book!

    CUTE!! We just got Clara three of those Indestructables books…tear/drool/rip/bend proof paper books that are 100% washable. But….she doesn’t have a single counting book. Don’t know how that happened! I’d love to add this to her collection!

    I was skeptical about Romeo & Juliet, too. :) But once I ordered Pride & Predjudice I figured it out. These are so super cute! I would love to add this to our bookshelf!

    love the concept. Remeber watching the movie in my freshman year of hs and the teacher asking us if we would be offended by nudity

    I would love to know exactly how they approached the sensitive issues as well?? The concept of it seems neat though and I also like the pictures!

      Essentially, each page just features a number and a picture of some aspect of the original novel (1 balcony, 2 loves, 3 people meet, 4 roses, 5 friends, etc). It’s very well-done…entertaining for adults, but innocent for little ears + eyes.

    No need to enter me as I already have this book. Just wanted to say that YES, as an English teacher myself, I was delighted to discover this baby version – and also felt it was so well-handled for children. My son LOVES this book as well as the Pride & Prejudice one! :)

    These are adorable! I, too, am a classic lit fan. I hope my kids get into it as much as me when they get older. Best part? Almost all classic lit is FREE on my Kindle! Right now I’m re-reading Little Women.

      We own all four. Pride & Prejudice is my favorite, followed by Romeo & Juliet. Jane Eyre and Alice in Wonderland are well-done too, but I’m not as drawn to those titles.

      I wonder what other books will come out in the series. I’m hoping for The Secret Garden, Emma, Anne of Green Gables, Great Expectations, and Little Women. How about you?

        Little Women would be great! It’d be fun to see something a little darker too…Crime and Punishment? Moby Dick? :)

          Yes! Something by Dostoyevsky would be fantastic.”The Brothers Karamazov” perhaps?

          Also – I have yet to read “Moby Dick” (sheepish smile). Did you enjoy that book?

    I adore the idea of Shakespeare at such a young age. To even begin to hear the famous title of Romeo and Juliette- what a fun idea. The illustrations also look delightful.

    Adorable! I bought the Pride and Prejudice for my daughter and we have so much fun sharing our love of classic literature with her! Her uncle is a high school lit teacher and even thought it was funny enough to take in and introduce a lesson with – we would love this!
