SLY Awards: Marriott Rewards

It’s summer and I have “travel” on my mind. That, and “adventure.” Perhaps that’s why we’ve been going on long-ish family hikes, tentatively planning a trip to Washington State, and dreaming about going on a camping trip (soon!).

tussp phototour26 300x208 SLY Awards: Marriott RewardsIf you’re vacationing or road-tripping this summer, I wanted to be sure and tell you about Marriott’s FREE Rewards program. Marriott Rewards has no blackout dates and points can be redeemed for hotel stays, frequent flyer miles, cruises, car rentals, brand-name merchandise, and more. And, now, with Marriott Instant Redemption, you can choose to spend your points on room service, a massage, a round of golf, or a room upgrade.

Marriott Rewards points can be earned by staying at over 3,200 Marriott International hotels around the world (including Marriott Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Renaissance Hotels, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn & Suites, TownePlace Suites, SpringHill Suites, and Marriott Vacation Club).

sly award recipient nicole and her boys SLY Awards: Marriott RewardsI wonder how SLY Award recipient Nicole Bateman will spend her 25,000 points! Perhaps she’ll round up her boys for a mini “staycation” at the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa – I just know her boys would LOVE the Monsoon Falls Waterslide! Or maybe she and her husband will escape for a night away at the Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains. So many possibilities!

SLY Awards: Bondi Band

nicole 5k SLY Awards: Bondi BandSLY Award recipient Nicole Bateman is a runner and fitness enthusiast. She might contest the “enthusiast” part, but…no one can argue that she is committed to staying healthy and fit. This year, she set a goal to run in 3 5Ks and she’s already run in two (Actually, one of them was a 5-miler! Woot!).

As such, I’m confident that she’ll be excited to select a headband or moisture wicking hat of her choice from Bondi Band.

Bondi Band is a Maine-based company that offers comfy, colorful, and creative headbands and moisture wicking hats to fit every lifestyle and personality. They’re designed to be comfortable/stretchy and form-fitting at the same time for optimal performance without the headache.

Plus, the company donates 10% of their pretax profits to charity.

Somebody Loves You, Nicole Bateman

SLY header 300x146 Somebody Loves You, Nicole Bateman

Congratulations to Nicole Bateman…this week’s recipient of a SLY Award here on Metropolitan Mama.

sly awards nicole Somebody Loves You, Nicole BatemanThe world is full of darkness, scary people, and broken hearts. Fortunately, it’s also full of people that are kind, good, genuine, and warm – people like Nicole Bateman. She and her husband are both the kind of people that spread care and service to everyone they meet. It’s not a contrived kind of thoughtfulness, either – it springs from deep down in their hearts.

Nicole manages to write two blogs [the pixel boutique and confessions of a cropaholic], run a design business and an etsy shop, be a great example for her 3 boys, and be a wonderful friend (all while looking super cute in her awesome thrift store fashion finds, I might add). She’s the kind of person who will remember your birthday or bring you chicken soup when you’re sick – little acts of hospitality that make a big difference.

Also, of note: Her husband is a police officer. He keeps the bad guys off the streets and helps people in danger, all while staying remarkably tender-hearted (Ex. he loves babies…and is great with kids).

nicole and family Somebody Loves You, Nicole BatemanP.S. If you need a designer for your website, blog, twitter page, or etsy shop – be sure to check out Nicole’s portfolio. She’s super humble about her skills, but her work speaks for itself.

Won’t you join with me as I celebrate Nicole and shower her with two surprise gifts hand-selected just for her? Oh, and YOU will have a chance to win both products too.

If you know Nicole in real life [or if you read one or both of her blogs], please leave a compliment here for her. Let’s give her something to smile about today!

SLY Awards: FOX Restaurant Concepts

Anyone who knows our family knows that we rarely eat out. Eating in is less expensive (an important factor since we live on a tight budget). It’s typically much healthier. And the cherry on top is that it’s MUCH yummier.

We seriously eat like kings and queens. Grilled Salmon w/ Cinnamon Sweet Potatoes. Chicken Enchiladas with guacamole. Homemade pizza with the toppings of our choosing. Etc.

When we do eat out, we prefer local places with…you know…actual chefs. They tend to be pricier (which is okay since we seldom eat out – “quality over quantity” is our mantra…), but they also offer more nutritious offerings and better service.

logo 300x97 SLY Awards: FOX Restaurant ConceptsOne such “chain” is FOX Restaurant Concepts – “a collection of original, thriving boutique restaurants in Arizona, Colorado, Texas and Kansas.” I’ve only been to two of their restaurants, but if those experiences are any indication, I would recommend them all. The atmospheres are modern and decidedly upscale – and the food is fresh.

Each restaurant offers a different culinary focus and experience. You can opt for Spaghetti Squash Casserole with Fresh Mozzarella, Organic Tomatoes & Zucchini at True Food Kitchen. Or an Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb with creamy potato, warm asparagus & spinach salad at Wildflower. Or any number of flavorful dishes at the other 10 restaurants.

Have YOU ever been to one of Sam Fox’s restaurants? What was your experience like?

SLY Awards: TwirlyGirl

When I was a little girl, I had a red & white dress that was “twirly.” You know the kind I’m talking about. I could spin in circles and it would lift gracefully up in the air. I felt Pretty. Free. Happy.

logo girl 149x150 SLY Awards: TwirlyGirlCindy at TwirlyGirl knows just such a feeling and she strives to recreate it for little girls across the country with her Reversible Twirly Dresses and Reversible Twirly Skirts. The dresses are designed to twirl, but they’re not button-y and scratch-y and lacey (fancy dresses for little girls too often fall in that category).

On the contrary, these dresses are comfortable, soft, and…made for play.

From the website: “Each dress is a work of art. Only a limited number of each version is made  - empowering individuality and inspiring creativity.”

Check out a few of the current designs available on her website (note: get ‘em while they’re hot…the designs change frequently):

I happen to know that SLY Award recipient Dayna Hadden shares my love for handmade, NON-character-driven kids clothing so she’ll undoubtedly be thrilled to receive a delightful twirly girl dress for her 2 1/2 year old.

Note: All TwirlyGirl dresses and skirts are made right here in the USA.

Somebody Loves You, Dayna Hadden

SLY header 300x146 Somebody Loves You, Dayna Hadden

Congratulations to Dayna Hadden…this week’s recipient of a SLY Award here on Metropolitan Mama.

sly awards dayna Somebody Loves You, Dayna HaddenEvery once in awhile, some scary emergency happens and you end up at the hospital. You hope and pray for a caring, compassionate, and intelligent nurse to watch over you and/or your precious family member. You don’t know it, but…you’re praying for someone like Dayna Hadden.

Dayna has been a nurse since 2004. She works in the pediatric intensive care unit – a place of many tears, much sorrow, and much healing. If you showed up at her hospital, bleary-eyed and beaten down, you would feel a sudden sense of relief upon seeing her warm eyes, her sincere smile, and her calming voice. You would undoubtedly notice her stunning natural beauty, but you would be drawn in by her good heart.

Dayna had this to say about her occupation of choice, “I find my work as an RN challenging- academically, clinically, spiritually, & emotionally. I like the variety of our patient population- newborn all the way to young adult & w/ many different diagnoses- trauma, transplants, cancer…etc. I am thankful for such a tangible way to try to serve and reflect God’s love.

somebody loves you dayna Somebody Loves You, Dayna HaddenThe cool thing about Dayna is that she is also extremely cognizant of her most significant role – as mom to her two delightful little girls, ages 6 months and 2.5 years old. She works on the weekends from 7pm-7am to ensure that her girls don’t have any non-parental care and I’m fairly certain that she sacrifices sleep for playtime on some of those days.

She is a gentle, strong, and beautiful woman. (And  - P.S. – she’s thinking about starting a blog!)

Won’t you join with me as I celebrate Dayna and shower her with two surprise gifts hand-selected just for her? Oh, and YOU will have a chance to win both products too.

If you know Dayna in real life [or if you have something to say about her story...], please leave a compliment here for her. Let’s give her something to smile about today!

SLY Awards: Vincent Shoes

When it comes to clothes for my girls, I rely heavily on hand me downs, consignment stores, clothes swaps, and sales racks. But…I will pay a pretty penny for higher quality shoes because they’re more comfortable, they last longer, and they don’t stink (literally).

Vincent shoes – based in Stockholm, Sweden – offers well-made shoes in clearly modern designs.

Check out three of my favorite picks [click on each picture for pricing and further details]:

Cute, right? Vincent shoes have a cool, voguish flare to them – and the bright colors add a lot of kid-appeal. The shoes retail for between $33-$64, but they also have a great CLOSEOUT Cubby section of their website where you can get shoes for as low as $12.95.

sarah bessey small SLY Awards: Vincent ShoesSLY Award recipient Sarah Bessey has two kids – 3-year-old Anne and 1-year-old Joseph – so I’m sure she’ll enjoy picking out one pair of shoes of her choice.
