It's no secret that our family appreciates cast iron cookware.
We love its durability, versatility, and ease of use. The heavy-duty pans, dutch ovens, and skillets last forever and can be used on the stovetop, the grill, or the open flame. After use, cleaning is as easy as a quick scrub with hot water and a quick re-coat of vegetable oil.
Our new favorite piece is the Reversible Pro Grid Iron Griddle (which was sent to us by LODGE) - ideal for much more than pancakes! The 20" griddle fits over two burners. One side is a flat griddle; the other is a grill pan with grooves. Because of the dual sides, it can be used for buttermilk pancakes, flat iron steaks, sliced vegetables, almost anything!
Although we've been using the griddle at home, I can see us taking it along for family camping trips in the future. All in all, it's a smart purchase for active families who love to cook from scratch.
LODGE also has a new cookbook out (released in March 2014) - Cast Iron Nation, featuring 160+ recipes with beautiful accompanying photographs intermixed throughout. Including Baked Spaghetti, Sweet Potato Casserole, Grilled Swordfish Sandwiches, Braised Kale with Bacon and Onions, Florida Blueberry Cobbler, just to name a few.

The only cast iron piece we have right now is a large skillet. But we love it! One of our family's favorites is Tamale Pie. http://www.marthastewart.com/866561/tamale-pie However, I recently read that the acid in tomatoes can pit the cast iron, so I might have to rethink that recipe.
